So, there is currently a debate in Geneva about whether military robots - primarily the developing infantry-"replacement" types - should be banned. One side says robots shouldn't have the responsibility of life-and-death decision, while the other says that it will cut soldier deaths.

It's not like these would be used for robot-on-robot violence, guys. They would be using the machines on human targets. And while an Army has no conscience, a soldier usually does. And that conscience keeps him under control. A machine has no conscience, and no more regard for human life than a lawnmower or Xbox. I'd rather have men and women shooting at me, than some soulless robot. Ban military robots.

It should only be banned if: A.) The software is relatively unreliable, and the civilian mortality rate is higher than it was with human infantry B.) There is an imminent risk of them becoming self aware (which is bound to happen eventually anyway)

1 返信"The day when two army corps can annihilate each other in one second, all civilized nations, it is to be hoped, will recoil from war and discharge their troops, until we can just make some cool ass robots to kill each-other instead." - Alfred Nobel. Slightly paraphrased.

4 通の返信Robots don't have morals or anything of the sort, just programming. If they see a child as a threat, dead. Dog, dead. Cat, dead. Innocent man, women, etc., dead. Of course considering the fact that there would be fault in the programming, which most of the time there is a problem.

3 通の返信I really don't understand why there are rules of warfare. Isn't morality already with its foot out the door when you decide to start taking human life?

2 通の返信Quick question for y'all saying yes to the ban. If we shouldn't develop robotic infantry, should we also stop making and improving our robotic IED/UXO disposal robots?
-
68 通の返信Of course they should be banned. I am stationed at an Air Force base that has a large Reaper and Predator drone presence because they test them and train people to use them here. I hate them, it just turns the war into a video game and people feel no remorse for pressing a trigger and firing a missile killing a bunch of Pakistani children.

If everyone adopted them, they would effectively become our proxies of war - this would be the most realistic scenario between nations with a high military capacity. However, it's more likely that 'Merica will use them to curbstomp certain pesky developing nations instead.

2 通の返信Their research should be accelerated. And honestly, the anti-robot arguments ITT are a joke. If I wanted to read wishy-washy bull**** I'd open a poetry book. Give me some practical reasons why we should stick with the objectively inferior human soldier.

Ad Hocにより編集済み: 11/17/2013 3:11:43 AMNo, I don't get all the paranoia over military robots. Until there's clear evidence that they A) Are unreliable at differentiating civilians from enemy combatants, and B) are going to become sentient and destroy all humans, then there's no reason not to use them.
