We always knew high-end PC gaming was costly. Keeping up with graphics technologies is the main issue. My £430 GTX 680 OC Edition (price when new) is only a year and a half old, and is now considered slow compared to many other cards, despite being the fastest single-core GPU on the planet at one point. I'd be interested to see a survey on console gamers based on: 1. How many games that have for their console(s). 2. What size TV/monitor they use for their console(s). 3. How old their TV/monitor is, for example, is it plasma, LCD, TFT, etc.

1 返信
majority of Steam users are rocking DirectX 11 GPUs. In fact, 64.78% have a DX11 GPU while only 29.4% have a DX10 GPU and only 1.75% have a DX9 GPU. So yeah, majority of Steam users have an equivalent GPU to what's in the Xbox One and PS4.
Apparently running the same version of direct x makes two GPUs equivalent... News to me.

4 通の返信It's funny - some PC gamers may not have the technology that beats the next-gen of consoles, but they can still run Battlefield 4 @ 1080p, 60 fps unlike the PS4 can. So much for Next Gen.

3 通の返信FoMan123により編集済み: 9/5/2013 10:26:33 PMThis isn't surprising. Steam is not restricted to "super hardcore PC gamers." Obviously, folks who take hardcore PC gaming seriously are likely to have a better setup than the next console gen (which was also the case for the last 2 generations as well), while people who use Steam frequently but either don't care or can't afford to upgrade their rigs will simply be satisfied using a PC that is good but not great (which was ALSO the case for the last 2 console generations). If you're not into AAA shooters and RPGs (as most gamers are not), you don't need a monster PC. Minecraft and The Sims don't require a terribly complicated setup. While it's interesting to have the survey that confirms it, this is not anything earth-shattering.

5 通の返信We have the freedom to upgrade whenever we please. Console people don't, their gonna be stuck for 7-8 more years.

sims3kにより編集済み: 9/5/2013 3:42:08 PMMy guess is most of those pcs with the lower specs are actually laptops people use to play one or two games sporadically. Like a few others here... mines a beast edit: I just checked the hardware survey from steam... whoever wrote that article is butt-blam!-ing retarded. The article itself has the most misleading title. He spends the whole article proving most pc gamers have stronger pcs then the xb1 and ps4. Jesus someone fire that guy

Blazin Phoenixにより編集済み: 9/5/2013 10:19:03 AMThe survey doesn't differentiate between desktops, laptops, and their gaming counterparts. So... um yea. The survey is going to be skewed a bit. Not everyone plays on a gaming desktop or laptop. There are plenty of games on Steam that are not very demanding.

Arbiter 739により編集済み: 9/5/2013 7:21:06 AMI already knew this and still don't care because my PC is better and I can always upgrade it. EDIT: Can someone make some noise about the DirectX versions and GPUs? I'm fairly sure the writers made a mistake.

3 通の返信BrenMan 94により編集済み: 9/5/2013 3:01:36 PMWell, a lot of Steam users I know play games on their laptops that aren't so demanding. I know that I play SimCity 4 and KOTOR I & II on my laptop because it's more comfortable and they're great ways to pass the time on trips. As for my rig, well, it'll be much better than the PS4 or Xbox One once I get my NVIDIA GTX 770.
