Does anyone else find this as fallacious as I do? American patriots always seem so confused about their heritage. Back in the early 1900s the general consensus was the fact that White Anglo-Saxon Protestants were the best 'type of people'. Despite the fact that the idea of an Anglo-Saxon England had ended with the dawn of Anglo-Normanism, or perhaps even earlier, with Viking invasion, Americans still fail to realise that most of them come from Europe in the first place not too far down the line.
Where does this American idea of superiority come from?

The patriotism is probably the result of propaganda that is slowly starting to unwind the more we give in to reflection. Right now the democratic elements are really fragmented and there is a great displeasure with our government. It is pretty rare at the same time to hear of American superiority from within the society, but that may be because our burdens and problems are so heavy that ignorance is really the best solution.

4 通の返信It's because we rose from being a group of mostly undesirables and poor people (of course exceptions) into one of the biggest superpowers in the world. Although I don't think of myself as better because I'm an American, I just think I'm better because I am.
-
We think we're just the rulers of the world and it revolves around us, we seem to reject any other culture as inferior to our own, that we are the "source if freedom in the world" and hence must have the rest of it now at our feet at our bidding, and can't come to realize just how many people HATE us.

2 通の返信People don't hold their ethnicity as superiority, unless if referencing to supremacist groups like neo-n@zis or the Black Panther party. People do hold their own nation as superiority to which America and many other nation's citizen view. It's called nationalism and there's nothing wrong with it.

12 通の返信It's funny how some Europeans will say "You keep forgetting you're basically European." When an American says something in regards to being superior but right when you mention the atrocities committed by early settlers they immediately say "lol, ameri-blam!-s being violent again!".

1 返信Most Americans know they are of European decent. I don't know where you're getting this shit from.

2 通の返信So because Americans largely descended from Europeans hundreds of years ago, that means that all of its success should be claimed by Europe? So does that make Bill Gates' great-great-grandfather a genius computer developer?

My family has been in the US for almost 200 years; for many generations. Any part of me that has heritage from Scotland, Germany, Ireland, and England is virtually non-existent at this point.
