So recently we found out you can buy psn games directly from a phone or web browser and your ps4 will turn on, download the content and shutdown automatically.
so tell me guys, is this always on, server connection between the ps4 and the Sony servers any different to Xbox 1 and its connection to Microsoft servers?
theoretically this could be abused to constantly spy on the consumer through the pseye camera/mic or the controllers mic/speaker could it not?
so why did everyone cause a shitstorm when Microsoft announced an always on connection but gladly accepts an always connected ps4?
the answer is Sony used sweet words, the right words. And the lot of you fell for the cheap marketing ploy.
in my opinion always on or always connected are terrible design choices. I like to be in control of any data I send or receive.

Now it isn't. The difference used to be, that you had to be connected to the internet every 24-hours.
theoretically this could be abused to constantly spy on the consumer through the pseye camera/mic or the controllers mic/speaker could it not?
Not unless you have a camera, which every Xbox owner will have. And I don't remember the DS4 having a mic on it?
so why did everyone cause a shitstorm when Microsoft announced an always on connection but gladly accepts an always connected ps4?
Because, PS4 wasn't forcing you to connect to the internet, but Xbox was.
the answer is Sony used sweet words, the right words.
in my opinion always on or always connected are terrible design choices. I like to be in control of any data I send or receive.
Same.

2 通の返信BlueRaithにより編集済み: 8/29/2013 7:31:55 PMPeople don't have a problem with this because everything that Sony is announcing is entirely optional. As is what Microsoft eventually changed. The difference is that Sony never tried to force these things as required to even play the console. The PS4 has never had to be always online to check DRM. The remote download feature, while an online feature only, obviously, is completely optional. You can turn the system off instead of setting it to sleep and only play with physical copies. The PSeye can be and has always been unnecessary to use the console. You never have to even buy one. Microsoft is now exactly the same to Sony is this regard after their backtracking. People are upset with them because they tried to implement these features at all. I'm not saying that Sony is some kind of saintly business that has our best interests in heart, but they are doing some smart marketing and PR compared to Microsoft rather than cheap. It is not cheap to appeal to consumers that are angry with your direct and closest competitor. The reason these features are not drawing the ire that Microsoft got with the very same features is because of the way that Sony is presenting them and the fact that they are, and have always been as far as we know, optional. PR and marketing is important as Microsoft has now more than likely and hopefully learned.

This is not "always on" this can be done by logging into the PSN from a phone tablet or web browser and adding games... but PS4 can download in the backgroud... this could be down by "wake on LAN" feature every networking card has... but rarely anyone uses with exception to IT admin.

1 返信I don't think that matters to much. X1 is probably going to sell more because most people don't follow the war thats going on. Also I think Sony's approach has been a bit childish, which has allowed Microsoft to be the bigger man. Whether or not that approach is going to work for them or not is something different altogether.

The difference is that Sony made it so that you do not have to have it set up to do it if you don't want it. It's like how I can set it up so my vita can turn on my ps3 for remote play I can choose to or I can set it so it doesn't have that option. That's the big thing that people were feeling from Sony, choice. Not that Sony is only cares about gamers because really they care about money they are a company after all.
