Please people, don't freak out, don't leap to defend one side, please be reasonable here.
Now, I don't understand why so many Americans hate on "soccer". As a fellow American, I've heard a lot of complaints about "soccer" as I tried to defend it, alone. Here are several issues:
>They call it "soccer" and steal it's true name (football) and give it to a sport where neither the foot, besides punts and like one or two other times, or a ball is used. No, it's the hands/arms and an egg shaped object that is used. I'm not saying to call it Handegg, but wouldn't Tackleball make a lot more sense, seeing as you tackle for the "ball"?
>They say it's "boring". Well the only stoppage of the action is at half time. In American Football, there is constant stoppage. My parents were watching the Green Bay Packers play the Seattle Seahawks earlier today, and they literally stopped and had a redo of the same punt at least 3 times! I don't understand how that isn't boring, and nonstop action is.
>They say no likes it. Well, no. Easily the most popular sport in the world, many, many countries, and rising in the U.S., many people more than simple love it.
>"It's for p*sy's" Hahaha no! It's a pretty tough sport. Not quite Hockey level, more dangerous than Baseball. In 7th grade I watched a kid break his ankle, bending it to the side, in the middle of a match. Players get concussions, broken bones, fractures, ect quite often
>Continuing on that, it's dangerous for fans too, because of fans. Football (soccer) fans go berserk, occasionally beating all will to live on out of each other. There is even a movie (Greenstreet Hooligans, which is really good regardless of how much you like soccer) about this, and it's brutal, realistic, and, if anything, understates how savage the fans can be.
>Also involving fans, watching it is only boring if you make it boring. All across the globe, fans chant and cheer on their team. But not only after a goal, at game start, ect, but AT ALL TIMES. 90 minutes of constant jumping and shouting, could you do it?
>Athletes must be in great shape. To run for 45 minutes, then another 45 with a 5-10 minute break? While many athletes in American Football are incredibly muscular, not all are. Some are just big. The fat kind. Overweight. Plus, it stops sometiems within seconds, and don't say it doesn't, I've sen several games before. The average play probably lasts around 30-60 seconds.
Please don't just say "it's still stupid," because if you took time to consider the points I've made, I'm sure you could at least respect it. You don't have to like it, but the hate most Americans have for it is pointless and simply because the U.S. struggles against European teams. Well, the U.S. Women's team doesn't, they won gold in football in the Olympics.
TL;DR Main ideas are underlined, though most require reading to fully understand them.

I like both you don't have to like one or the other both good sports. The reason most people probably say soccer is boring is because there's a lot of strategy involved with ball usage and the such while in football it kinda represents Americans tendency to head straight in and hit something as hard as they can and people like the part where people are making big hits almost every play.

The term "Football" doesn't refer to kicking the ball but rather because it was one of the first sports not played on horseback. So saying that American Football's name is odd is incorrect.

Football (soccer) was originally called Soccer by professional leagues with Football being slang. In fact, the first usage of the word soccer predates football by about 18 years. Then the name switched over to football due to its rise of use by the commoners and many countries (not just the US) continued to call it soccer because they already had their own native sports that were already called football. The reason American football is called football is because at the time of its creation pretty much every other sport was played on horseback. Thus American football was called football due to the fact that it was played on foot.

When American Football was first invented there was a lot more kicking of the ball, as there was no forward pass. But euroscum just go "lol they almost never kick the egg in handegg, those dumb americans" and don't know the origin of the sport. And soccer is boring, because in football there are more exciting moments. In soccer, the only exciting thing is goals, and those are rare compared to scores in other sports. And the fans/players, every single soccer fan/player I see is obnoxious and immature. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

I like how you keep your argument unbiased, OP. Though I can kind of understand why we Americans call sports like soccer boring. We're used to high scoring games like football and basketball. A lot of Americans don't like watching games that don't light up the scoreboard all night. I personally am just starting to really get into it. Been following the Barclays Premier League, particularly Manchester City.

VICにより編集済み: 8/24/2013 4:20:48 PMI like how you ask people to be reasonable and then spew the bullshit meme "argument" and use it as your first point. Real talk: Most of America doesn't hate soccer. They just couldn't care less. FTR: I like soccer.

Even as a British man I know that the sport was originally called soccer in Britain but the working glass gradually changed it to football. Its known world over as soccer in most places. Anyway, who cares, watch whatever you want.

With a sport like Football, with every pass or every run, there's the potential to make a HUGE play. It's a different kind of excitement.
>They say no likes it. Well, no. Easily the most popular sport in the world, many, many countries, and rising in the U.S., many people more than simple love it.
That's due in-part to it being so easy to play. Unlike football or hockey, you don't need equipment. All you really need is a ball. In America, very few people actually care about professional soccer. Saying that it's not very popular is actually a valid reason not to like it (at least in the US).
>"It's for p*sy's" Hahaha no! It's a pretty tough sport. However, when you compare Soccer to American Football, Hockey, and Rugby, it doesn't look that bad. The fans are too fanatical. I don't want to go to a game with the risk of getting my shit kicked in.
>Also involving fans, watching it is only boring if you make it boring. All across the globe, fans chant and cheer on their team. But not only after a goal, at game start, ect, but AT ALL TIMES. 90 minutes of constant jumping and shouting, could you do it?
I've been to various sports outings, and that happens with just about every sport. (With the exceptions of baseball and golf.)
>Athletes must be in great shape. To run for 45 minutes, then another 45 with a 5-10 minute break? Hockey and Soccer both require incredible stamina. (I'd say Hockey requires more, but I played different positions in each, so I might be biased). While football doesn't require you to keep going for 40 minutes at a time, the constant stop-and-go drains your energy. Quickly. Also, you may think that those lineman aren't shape but that's untrue. While some of them are just genuinely fat, most of them run mid-to-sub 5's in the 40yd dash, and can squat 330-360lbs.

3 通の返信Football does stop more but each play means SOO much more. More break away, fast pace scoring in Football. Scoring is the most entertaining part of pretty much any sport. Soccer games normally end 0-0 0-1 1-2 etc. Faking injuries EVERYWHERE. Really annoying to watch... No pride. No use of technology so BS happens all the time (i.e. instant replays) Rules are jacked up and allow shit like this to happen... Uruguay player cheated, used his hands to stop a goal RIGHT AT THE END and Uruguay went on to win, crushing Uganda's dream of advancing in front of the home crowd... BTW, I really do enjoy soccer, but still think Football is way more entertaining.
