And paid to people who dont work?
Heres a post from a discussion I just had on facebook with my liberal friend from highschool.
Enabling the poor means giving them enough money to survive so they don't try to better themselves. Again, if the poor weren't getting enough funding how come there isn't millions of poor unemployed people in this country dying everyday? Close to 50 percent of the people in this country are collecting some kind of subsidy. Our population rate would be spiraling down! You yourself grew up well off, you were friends with well off white kids, so I can't blame you for your views. You don't have friends who collect welfare, EBT cards, get a free phone, and dollar a day car insurance. If they have children, their children qualify for the breakfast program, free lunch and the free after school program. I have plenty of friends who are just fine living off of the system. And I can link them on here if you want because they will tell you the truth, they aren't ashamed to admit it.
Lastly, I find it completely ironic that the same Liberals who think its fine to abort babies are now so keen on assisting the poor. Maybe its because the babies they're aborting can't vote for their policies like the poor can.
So my question is, Why do we keep giving to the poor? They didn't work for it, and as long as they keep getting money, they will never work for it.

You know ill add this, we have a major infrastructure problem in this country, bridges, dams, roads, etc, this program could provide the cheap labor to work on these issues, fixing and creating new infrastructure, and teach these people skills, that would do nothing but benefit the country in the long run.

1 返信to answer your question(however much i may disagree with the wording of it) is that currently welfare payments end up giving more money then can be expected from a full paying job working 40 hours a week at minimum wage.(580 at a full paying job vs up to $900 for a family of four.)this number that was used 580 does not include the deductions for income tax and any other benefits so the actual number is probably much less. With that low amount you would need to take into account things like rent and bills and it quickly becomes clear that little if any money is able to be saved for furthering their education or getting the help they would need to move up past minimum wage. I do understand that working a part time job would allow you to miss out on the benefits that take part of the paycheck, however income tax is still taken and their is less money to begin with so after taking into account bills and rent and things like food, it is fairly clear that surviving on minimum wage is rather difficult. That is why i feel people stay on welfare as long as possible because while they may not have the best lifestyle, it may give them better quality of life then working a full time job or a few part time jobs.

Solution: Kill off the very poor control birth rates exterminate the useless. Other wise there will still not be enough jobs for everyone and many will remain in poverty. But that will never happen so 2nd solution
Start the Zombie Apocalypse!
2 通の返信Of your taxes, less than 8% go to "Entitlements." So, for every dollar, less than a dime goes to the poor. You would save more by demanding the feds pull out of every hot spot and shrink the military to a non-wartime size.

The idea is that the money is paid to people who CAN'T work to earn money (can't, not won't). If the system is giving money to people who chose not to work, but could, then it is the system that is flawed, not the ideal. Furthermore I would prefer that money get given to a few people who don't need it than it not be given to the thousands who do need it. A welfare system with some abuse is better than no welfare system at all.

1 返信Dredwerkzにより編集済み: 8/13/2013 6:03:33 PMJust reading Wang, I think it's important to have a system that stops people from dying if they hit a bad patch. But to live in any kind of comfort they should have to work for it. The link is pretty close to my ideal system.

I thought the majority of the poor are working poor? There's definitely people that take advantage but from my experience (which can totally be different then yours) the majority of people only use it temporally so that they can get back on their feet.

Forever Bergにより編集済み: 8/13/2013 5:52:34 PMThe welfare system which supplies money for up to five years for people who are homeless, nearly homeless, or low financially helps them find stability and have an opportunity to obtain a job and get back on their feet. There is nothing wrong with that system and it helps stimulate economic growth as the middle class can grow more. This was the bipartisan deal that we could have had today. However the welfare system now is that we are now supplying money to people for more than five years for being obese or other reasons which are ridiculous. I understand a limited year term of welfare for people who need help getting a home and stability, however I do not understand long term welfare because then the people's children expect to depend and live on it and the people don't feel the need to be able to carry their own weight. But to say there should be no welfare at all is an extremely uneducated view. I'm a Conservative by the way.

3 通の返信brandorobotにより編集済み: 8/13/2013 3:44:58 PMIt's not logically possible that everyone is going to get a college education and a good job, and if those people don't make a liveable wage then where does that leave them? And it also seems like the same people who complain about how we need jobs in this country are the same people complaining about those "freeloaders" who need to go out and get a job. So which is it? Are there jobs or are these people just lazy?

6 通の返信Shut the -blam!- up you self entitled heartless douchebag, people need that minuscule amount of your "Hard earned" money that you allegedly worked for (which I highly doubt because you were born into a rich family and had all you needed in life served to you on a silver -blam!-ing platter, they need it TO LIVE, which is certainly more useful than the second yacht you were planning to buy with it. it's also ironic that the same republican -blam!- who tries to save clumps of cells inside a woman's womb because they are potential life can't spare any of his precious money to help the people already alive and are on the verge of homeless-ness and death.

Y SO REACH BETAにより編集済み: 8/13/2013 12:51:31 PMThey're human beings who suffer, just like we would if we were in their position. As of now it is more profitable to collect benefits than to work in many states. So why the hell should they bust their balls in 2 part time jobs and get almost nothing for it? They won't even make the bottom line for cost of living and they get to watch their friends live well with benefits. Class mobility in the US is severely restricted, especially right now. Jobs are paying obscenely low wages compared to cost of living right now and the indefinite expansion of the money supply means that there is a constant state of devaluing the currency at a disproportionate cost to the poor. The system is rigged in favor of those with money and it makes it hard on someone who isn't doing so well. Welfare is there because someone's mistake shouldn't be the end of their life, we all make mistakes and we deserve the chance to learn from them. However, there's no support to move from welfare to independent. Instead they're just trapped in a broken system and left to rot while people who have it made say everyone on welfare is a stupid -blam!-ing leech who deserves to die. Welfare is investing in human potential, if you want to complain, why not complain about the couple thousand tanks the government bought that the pentagon didn't want? They'll never see action and will never help anyone. More of your taxes are spent making bombs than ever goes to someone on welfare.

We need a system to catch those who fall through the cracks. People will always abuse it. However, I'd prefer that that happened rather than have people die when we could have saved them. You can't save them all, but you can damn well try.
-
As a poor person I can say that its true to the vast majority. ALthough some like me actually try to work for it. Its not easy but not impossible, alot of people just don't like something that involves effort.
-
I know that while there are always going to be those that abuse a system such as these, there are thousands upon thousands more who actually use these programs to survive and provide a decent lifestyle for their children. Yes, people use the systems incorrectly, but for every one wrongdoer, there are thousands who need it.
