To have kids or to not have kids

Not too long ago I remember there being a thread about Japan's population in decline and I thought it selfish that someone should live through life without wanting to experience parenthood. Well now there is a Yahoo article on it, about people advocating that being child-free is the way to go. I, however look forward to the day I can become a parent and pass my knowledge onto someone else.
Life might be good when you don't have to deal with a kid screaming and yelling every waking morning but what kind of self-important snob would you have to be to put yourself first? Parenthood is all about sacrifice. It's about preparing a future vessel and accepting that your life will not last. I created this topic to discuss this matter.

No kids. I'd rather enjoy my life to the fullest. If on Friday I decide "-blam!- it, I'm going to Las Vegas. I feel like playing Craps for a couple hours and going to Joel Rubuchon." I can do it. With a kid? Nope.

4 通の返信Look man, I'm all about being a parent and such, but judging a person for NOT wanting a kid is just wrong. So what if someone doesn't want kids? More power to them, at least they can make a decision on their own, instead of those kids that just accidentally become parents. You're the reason why we can't have nice things in this world. You and your judgmental approach to EVERY GOD DAMN THING. If we could just step back, see that we are all our own individuals, and learn to love, then we could all be happy. If someone wants kids, then let em. If they don't want kids, that's perfectly fine too! Wanna be homosexual? Fine! :D Go ahead. Wanna smoke tobacco, or marijuana? Drink alcohol, or become a teacher? Wanna solve world hunger, or invent a new type of sandwich? Please, by all means, do what makes you happy, so long as it doesn't take away from the rights of others. Nonetheless, parenthood is DEFINITELY not for everyone. I don't even know if I will be a good father one day, though plenty of ex gfs and good friends tell me I will be a great father. Everyone has their own life plan. We all do what makes us happy, and we all learn to love one another.

3 通の返信This is exactly why I want to adopt. I think it's selfish to not raise a child and it teaches parents responsibility and discipline to raise a child.

I want kids, to have this kid who I helped to make and raise... To watch him/her grow into adulthood and teach them life, they could hate me or love me but I will always love them and would be happy as long as they are, there are some things like first words, walk, relationship, etc. that are too good to miss

If you are irresponsible, don't have kids. People who do not elect to have kids are not doing anything wrong. However, they are missing out on the one single most important thing that makes you mean something in life. imo

3 通の返信Kids are the most life-altering, difficult, worrisome, happy, and fulfilling pieces of my existence. No one should be persuaded one way or the other on the subject. It's simply something each person needs to decide for themselves.

I think calling it selfish is kind of a narrow way of looking at it. Personally, I wouldn't want to have kids because I worry enough as it is, having a kid would only drive me insane and cause me to fall into a deeper depression as I'd constantly be worried about the little bastard or bitch. Plus having a kid is a lot of work and some people really don't think it through well enough, it's not as simple as owning a pet.

Also 1 Aunt of mine hates kids but put up with me and my brothers since we are family, one of my other aunts wanted kids but miscarried and treats me and my brothers like she would her own kids so it's rather nice.
