If you were a recruiter for a business, and you had to hire 1 person to be a manager. A young, perfectly qualified woman, and a young, perfectly qualified man both show up for an interview and both seem to be perfect fits.
Why would it not make PERFECT logical sense from a business perspective to hire the man every time?
Women have maternity leave, where they get 12-48 weeks PAID for no work, and you have to train or get a replacement for them the entire time and you can't fire them. Then they get pregnant multiple times so you have to find a replacement, pay BOTH of them while she is pregnant.
Meanwhile, the man is able to work every day of the week for the rest of their lives.
There is nothing sexist about women not getting hired as much as men. NOTHING. It is completely business related.

11 通の返信Huh? Most businesses prefer to higher women over men.. Least that is how it seems in my area. At my work( A School) of probably 30+ people, there are only six males.. Three of those are Teacher's Aids and the other three are teachers.

3 通の返信King Dutchyにより編集済み: 4/14/2013 8:40:21 PMI agree, it's not necessarily sexist. Stuff like pregnancy makes it more inefficient to hire women than equally skilled men. Regardless, I believe affirmative action will still support society as a whole. EDIT: I decided to look up sexism for the sake of this discussion.
1: prejudice or discrimination based on sex; especially : discrimination against women 2: behavior, conditions, or attitudes that foster stereotypes of social roles based on sex
I suppose the second definition would definitely apply to what you described. Maybe you are being a bit sexist, despite your intent.

1 返信There is a reason more men are hired, and it's not just for the sake of being sexist.

4 通の返信
There is nothing sexist about women not getting hired as much as men. NOTHING. Let's not pretend blatant bigotry is logical "from a business perspective". It's not.

4 通の返信My only problem is when the man is more qualified, but the woman is hired because of her gender. That is not equality in my book.

4 通の返信Cuz in today's world, racism against white males is accepted. Even in the laws it is there.

14 通の返信Decimator Omegaにより編集済み: 4/14/2013 1:12:50 AMJust forget it. I was in a crappy mood. Apologies. OT: If I'm the employer, gender doesn't make a difference to me. All I'm concerned about is if he or she could do the job.

We can even go one step further, what if there simply aren't many women applying for the jobs?/qualified? i remember a lot of people complaining about the lack of women in the sony p24 conference, yet the possibility that there simply weren't any women who were in the right position to warrant being on stage, never occurred to them. Also, could someone find those charts and articles stating how women simply chose not to go into IT jobs and the like?

1 返信I think it's just a sound business decision hiring the more stable worker. Men also tend to work more hours per week than women. Anyway I agree.

7 通の返信People tend to pay less attention to women and minorities. This is often reflected in the success of job applicants. This is a problem.

1 返信Well, by definition that is sexist. But there is no way to prove the reasons that anyone wasn't hired. it goes way deeper than sexism. People are denied jobs because of race and ethnicity every single day. There is nothing anyone can do about it either. "We have chosen to move forward with other applicants at this time"
-
4 通の返信Well yes. That's why we are biased against women which is what sexism is. A government branch once got reprimanded for only hiring women because they were underqualified and it was sexist against men but they wanted to seem open and honest towards each other but their sexism ended up reversing instead of ending... o_o

4 通の返信A Squeaky Pooltoyにより編集済み: 4/13/2013 5:38:11 PMIt is a good point, men wouldn't need to take off for those things, but I don't think that's a very good reason for not hiring someone, especially when they might be more qualified. If they're not then don't hire them, but if they are then they shouldn't be passed over for a silly reason like this. Lately I've been wondering if it would be a good idea to just remove the race/ethnicity and sex/gender boxes from application forms, assign each a number so the name doesn't give it away, then judge applicants solely on their qualifications. Merits and experience alone would be the grounds for hire, no prejudices could have a play.

1 返信I agree Women shouldn't even have the rights they have right now. Only reason because of this is the evolution of feminism by the American lesbian. Also women usually get sick more, more unreliable and the prego leave that you said.

2 通の返信Sexism and racism are terrible things. But If I open an establishment and I don't want to serve white people, than I have the right to deny service to anyone for what ever reason I like... I won't make very much money though. To be racist and sexist is not damaging others as much as it is damaging yourself.
