I don't think there is anything else I can really say about this.
This isn't facebook. This isn't deviantart. This isn't the comments section of the Daily Mail Online. It's not even twitter. Hashtags? Really?
There have been many great features applied here. The white background (seriously, its absence until now has been bizarre), ability to change name (why did it take so long to get that?) and automatically parsing urls (ditto to that one). Everything else I've seen so far? Not really.
Nothing about the layout makes sense. Pinned threads in private groups are gone. I'm told private groups are no longer private. There's no real sorting of things. Replies to individual posts? What was wrong with quoting? Sorting the 'threads' by newest reply first? What is this?
Standard forum layout is standard for a reason. It's a forum, for debate. However inane and pointless and childish the debate may actually turn out to be. Comment-based layout is for feedback and news 'discussion'.
This is not a forum anymore.
Can we at least have the option to remain on the old forum layout?
ADDED TO, moved to OP for improved clarity.
After some determined attempts to make myself like the new layout I've noticed some other things.
Not only have pinned threads been taken down, they seem to have been wiped entirely.
In Sapphire, we have apparently lost our 'spam thread', our 'forum rules' and a history of the community, which chronicles upwards of four years of various parts of Bungie.net
These haven't just been moved, they're gone.
Forum navigation has gone backwards. You can't meaningfully cycle through. If I recall correctly, Sapphire had upwards of two and a half thousand pages of forum. To cycle through that now would require astronomically more time than before - partly because of the greatly increased page loading times, mostly because of the inability to progress more than one page at a time. Also the fact that, which I am remiss to note, there hasn't been a 'jump to page' or 'find by date' option added.
The changing of urls. Really. I had dozens of individual threads from the forum bookmarked on my browser. None of their urls work anymore, nor do any of the urls for groups. So frankly, every last one of those threads are completely lost. I could go to Wayback Machine to go and find them, I guess, but seriously why should I? There's no guarantee that any are even archived. There is no immediately apparent way of accessing the old 'saved threads' function, so even if I'd done that, I wouldn't be able to find them that way either.
It also bizarrely tells us our posts have been liked, yet does not seem to display anywhere how many times it has been liked except for in the notifications feed. Possibly one of maybe three good things that have come out of this update.

5 通の返信It's amazing to me how such an awesome, powerful, and cutting edge design of a tag-based, dynamic forum is being trashed on due to the presence of a single '#' somewhere. I can sort of respect it; but here's the thing: Bungie isn't trying to rip off Twitter, they're only using a current trend in how to represent subject tags ( categories ) in a way that's instantly recognizable. Unfortunately, yes, this trend was started by users of Twitter and Tumblr. Ok, ignore the '#' for a minute and think about what we now have; a way of getting threads you're interested on your front page, in the same place, without having to navigate from forum section to forum section. Less clicking, more flexibility, all your Flood, Community and Universe in one sweet strip. I can understand the combination of elements you dislike ( '#' ) along with apprehension against change might make you feel confused, or even hostile, by the new system, but it's really doing the same thing it always done, just with a little less middle-man. Is Bungie.next a classical forum? No; but I think it is the makings of a viable answer to the fundamental flaws bulletin boards have, and the cultural sedimentation that takes place within them. To be honest, I think this kind of approach is the future, and I love it! Humans naturally categorize information, and in many instances, information is relevant to multiple categories. Stripping away the hierarchy of these categories and turning them into attributes instead is much closer to how human mind works. Lastly, this kind of system has been wildly successful on other platforms ( though these platforms are not intended for interpersonal conversation in the same sense ) such as the Stack Exchange network ( Stack Overflow, Gaming.stackexchange, etc ), so it has proven merit. Give it a chance, you might learn to love it, once you master its use :)

Yeah, I have to say this has got me pretty mad. It's like Bungie hired some random web developer with the inspiration of a brick. And then he just thought he'd make it like Facebook because dat's cool bruv. Hashtags especially make me facepalm. Anyone know when this "Beta" is going to end? I mean, I'm keen for Bungie to listen in and get all this stuff in order. I'm sure we'll get what we want as long as it's more than that brick of a developer listening in. And if it was long-time Bungie developers that created this, then really Bungie? Really?

I've been here for about eight years now and I've gotta say, what the hell are they doing to this pace? They've got an even more obnoxious nav bar on the top along with the one on the side, a horrendously shitty format, TONS of unused space, and lots of unnecessary features. What can I do to get it changed though? My only idea right now is to send in a complaint via physical mail with the appearance of being just fanmail- some kind of sucker punch I dunno. I really hate how this place looks. It's getting to be kind of stupid. The lack of decent moderation only makes it worse.

One_Big_Bugにより編集済み: 7/22/2014 12:28:50 PMDude calm down, Bungie likes their layout and these what-ever-you-want-to-call-ums are for the fixes to the Beta to make the game better just let Bungie do their thing. Besides, you never even played Destiny. :)

3 通の返信I highly encourage anyone that does not like the new structure and layout of the new forum to let their voice be heard! Bungie listens to the community, and I really don't have a problem with it, but for those that do, speak up! Things change, often for the better, even when we don't realize it. In the words of Bob Dylan, "The times, they are a changin".

1 返信I don't really see any issues with the new design. It feels way more modern and faster than the old. I kinda miss the old forums though but id rather keep everything else as it is. Bring titles back! I want noble member status back!

I do think this change will kill off more of the forum than it brings in. Personally, I'm planning on sticking around for a couple of days, seeing how it goes, then probably bailing to another site until Bungie stops going full retard and fixes the site back to normal. Only good thing about this change is that is the name change thing (I got tired of my same name after so many years), and the notifications about replies and such. Those were the only things that needed to be changed.

2 通の返信This place reminds me of Polygon now to be honest. I don't mid it that much. I liked the old Bungie.net design, but this one is fine.

2 通の返信I was seriously banking on Bungie forums as a last resort against the uprising of all these new social media sites. The forums were such a great thing for Bungie.net members to get on and do basically whatever they wanted. I loved getting on all of the forum pages and seeing really great things by the users. I have been forcing myself to cope with the new user interface and forums. I am here to say; it doesn't work. The Bungie forums have turned into a mix of Facebook and Twitter. I am deeply disappointed with the re-design. Bungie: please go back to the original site design!! Or at least let there be an option to keep the original design in the means of a button or checkbox on our user settings!

This design lacks order and clarity. I've spent a few days trying to take it in but I think I hate it now more than I did when I started. I really dislike the tagging system. I couldn't agree more with the OP, it's not a forum anymore. Unfortunately, I think this will dramatically kill off the community. I question how much I will post here anymore, but we'll see...

4 通の返信Kwai Chang Caineにより編集済み: 1/14/2013 10:01:55 PMAll of you do know that the Old Bungie.net Still exists... Exactly the way it was before the new layout... 1. Go to your name. Click Profile 2. Click on your Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST, or Halo Reach service Record. 3. There you go you should now be on the Original Bnet. 4. Scroll over community tab, pick the forums you want... 5. Enjoy Side note: you cant post in those forums as of yet. No way has been discovered.... So far.

Erixsterにより編集済み: 1/14/2013 7:24:02 PMI have nothing against this fairly new forum. Perhaps this forum will grow when "Destiny" comes out. I'm pretty sure that this will lean to a Destiny forum if it ever goes through. Yet, this is still a beta. Bungie will probably read the feedback and improve the site of course. Though I agree with you. This site isn't the best. But did you guys expect this to be a good forum over a night? it's yet a beta guys.
