In certain threads (the gun control and evolution ones particularly), I have some pretty strong opinions and I've wondered if people have just thought that I'm a "crazy gun nut" or "god-denying fool" and muted me. How about the rest of you?

Probably at least 50% of the users have muted me. I've only muted one person ever.. he was posting legit spam.. the meat spin spam if you know who I am talking about? I don't like to limit my own forum experience just because I may not agree with people.

I only know of one person. Actually, make that two. But I only ever saw one post from one person, and that was him proclaiming to mute me and all the other members of Bungie.net, and the other one doesn't even post here anymore. I was never real fond of that mute system though. There's users on here that get offended way too easily and then chuck somebody into the silent portion of this site. And slowly but surely, no doubt, there'll be a silent portion of the community screaming out in the darkness with no one to hear them. I think they should refine the mute system a bit. A notification to the person they muted, and a reason why they were muted. As the current system works, people just stick their head in the sand and ignore their problem completely. Why not at the very least let the user you're not fond of know why? Folks deserve a second chance every now and then.

I mean, muting should only be done for those that spam, and not because someone says something you disagree with. Talking with those that you disagree with is how you become a better person, not through ignoring them. Shield yourself from all other opinions, and you are less a human than those you disagree with, no matter the topic.

5 通の返信The world is FULL of people who don't want to, don't have to, and may even take steps in order to not hear me speak. Why would I worry about or care that others have decided that I have nothing to say that they want to hear? That's their right. I have the same right and wouldn't want to be forced to provide an audience to someone who I didn't care to hear. They should have every ability to tune me (or anyone else) out.

12 通の返信I think it's pretty unfortunate that Bungie doesn't seem to have implemented a feature to let a user know that they have been muted a ton. Simply punishing people works, but if you at least give them the heads up that "Hey, whatever you're doing, you might want to stop doing, because people obviously don't like it", they might be able to reform their actions instead of continuing down the slow and silent path to being automatically placed on the global ignore list. I'm gonna be writing a topic about this I think, myessss...
