If you like those old Tie Fighter/Starfighter/Rogue Squadron types of games you should definitely give it a look.
That's exactly why I bought it, but it felt like it wasn't even 10% the game that any of the old LucasArts X-Wing series were.  What I'd really like* is a new Wing Commander, but Chris Roberts is too busy simultaneously fleecing and disappointing the masses for that to ever get made.  *It's not a space flight game, but it is a  future-sim. In any case, what I really want us an updated version of a game Capcom said they'd never make again. It will likely never happen, but I could be so glorious!

I never actually clicked with any of those originally, so I guess I just assumed it was a close enough experience for people who did.

 •
Would a modern game ever live up to those though?
Probably not. If I had to briefly sum it up, I'd say that the old Lucas games felt like games with elements of storytelling between missions, while EA's SW: Squadrons felt like storyboarded cutscenes with elements of gameplay between them. And even then, what story there was felt hollow & soulless, but my standards were forged from seeing the original trilogy in the theater, spoiler free - one of the many joys of an internet free childhood.
