If you guys seriously think theres gonna be a d3 you guys are delusional
every piece of new content gets absolutely hated on (rightfully so), you think they would make a d3 fresh slate get rid of everything we grinded for and expect people to be happy because its a new number next to the title?
the solution lies in fixing D2, not making another game that will die within a year of dropping
another solution to increasing playerbase is maybe making it so you dont have to buy dlc’s like a subscription. people will rather play a game like helldivers and kick -blam!- for 30 dollars than get d2, buy $40 dlcs every 6 months and $20 dungeon keys, tone down the loan shark attitude and you’ll soon realize how much easier it is for people to get their friends into the game lol

Sony can’t make a 3 without some idea of where 2 will be at its release. Which if it’s in early dev right now makes that a 3-5 year window. Destiny is sinking right now and the dev team is just making it up as they go. There is now 3-5 year vision for Sony to work with. They’d be better off rebooting the franchise than making a 3.

Don’t think the D3 leak wasn’t intentional. Player population at an all time low, mass player exodus with next to no player retention. Any whisper or promise of D3 is enough to keep the intrigue and ‘what if’ there. I’m willing to bet that most of the players who’ve left this game will be there waiting in years to come if D3 happens. I reckon it’s a tactical move by Bungie.

Obelixにより編集済み: 11/30/2025 8:04:18 PMMaking or not making D3 is a business cases / investment calculation on Sony’s part, like making a movie Transformers 14, it makes no sense to me, yet, here it is. This type of games have reached unprecedented development costs where budget blows past movie industry. While the current state of D2 and potential cannibalism between the two titles might be a factor it’s certainly not the only one. D3 would be an opportunity to apply lessons learned by starting from scratch and not being constrained by D2 aging architecture. All of this is speculation, but I don’t think it’s far fetch.
every piece of new content gets absolutely hated on (rightfully so), you think they would make a d3 fresh slate get rid of everything we grinded for and expect people to be happy because its a new number next to the title? the solution lies in fixing D2, not making another game that will die within a year of dropping
I think both statements are valid. I think Bungie/Sony absolutely would start us with a clean slate, and I think a lot of people would be happy with it (not everyone, but a lot of people.) Remember also that a fresh start can bring in new players, players who are daunted by the sheer vastness of Destiny 2. It's hard to start D2 as a new player and not feel like you're missing something, we've got old systems mixed with new, a terrible new player experience, confusing on-boarding; D2 just isn't very new player friendly. At the same time, the way of fixing Destiny 2 is to fix and improve Destiny 2; you're right that developing D3 won't help D2, won't bring new players into D2, but I don't think that would be the point of a D3 in the first place. Destiny 3 won't fix Destiny 2, but it might revitalize the franchise, which is what Bungie/Sony needs right now, they need to bring in new players, and Destiny 2 isn't doing that. We talk about tech debt, but there's something to be said for time debt, too. Players don't like jumping in in the middle of a game, and that's what we're asking them to do when they sign up for a new D2 account. Fresh starts have their advantages; that's not to say that they have all the advantages, but they do have some.

I’m not sure that D2 continuing indefinitely is the obvious option. It gets harder and harder to attract new players to an old game. D2 comes with a lot of baggage. If Sony wants to heavily invest and put their own stamp on the IP, maybe D3 is the more likely option.

The only way a D3 should be made and have a chance to be successful is to scrap the Tiger engine and use something newer from at least this decade. After that either make it a prequel or something a couple of centuries in the future with all new Vanguard leaders and locations.

1 返信The only way D3 can succeed is if someone, aside from Bungie, is given full reign over the project. It's obvious just by comparing Destiny 2 with Destiny Rising. Bungie no longer has any motivation left to keep going with this franchise.

Sony closed so many studios and cancelled new projects. If Destiny 2 goes on like it is, the development of Destiny 3 will be on ice too sooner or later. I've played this game for almost 10 years. I doubt Bungie does it this time, judging by retrospect. Honestly, I can't believe Bungie is really working on it.

7 通の返信Dungeon keys no longer exist, and you mention helldivers being 30 dollars minus the predatory battle passes that include new weapons and thats the only way to obtain them. 40 dollars every year now is not bad.....

2 通の返信If D3 is coming out that won't happen before 2029/30. By that time D2 will be 12 years old.
