Bungle, stop confusing skill with power level!
I’ve posted about this before but this, if you like, is an update.
I’ve now reached level 500 on my Titan. I’ve done my best with my gear to make sure I’ve decent grenade and melee stats, I’ve even thrown on Choir of One and gone pew-pew.
But now I’m no longer playing GM (which I struggled with), but ‘Ultimate’ and, contrary to what Bungie seems to believe, I am not the ‘ultimate’ warrior…
Yes, I know I can play at a lower level and mess about with modifiers etc etc, but if I want decent gear then I need to play ultimate… which isn’t a reflection of my ‘true’ skill (Is there a level called ‘Which end do I hold this gun by?’ In the game?), and whilst it’s great if I’m teamed with a pair of 9s or 10s who can waltz through the content, destroying everything in their path just by looking at it, it’s galling to not feel powerful or as though you’re contributing very much.
I just wish there was another way of growing without Bungie thinking that because I’ve scrambled to 500, I should now be a hard to kill god, when the reality is that you’re more likely to find me cowering behind the nearest rock, whimpering in fear! … but enough about the state of my marriage!

4 通の返信I feel your pain. I started Destiny in my late fifties and I'll be 68 in less than a month. I've got some physical issues I didn't have - blind in one eye and prescribed heavy duty pain meds. I'm not as good as I used to be. Vision, reflexes, memory, motivation... all nerfed. It sucks. I used to lead raids and now I'm the guy in the back who makes sure he stays alive so we don't wipe. I've got over 200 raid clears but I haven't done one in over a year. I don't want to be carried but I often struggle to keep up. I've traded hand cannons for scout rifles and don't go near melee builds. I throw a lot of grenades. Fortunately I have a couple of friends I've been playing with for years who cut me some slack. We still have fun. What I've learned is that if I want to continue playing the game I love I have to control my own experience. That means doing the things I like and avoiding the things I don't. And most importantly setting realistic expectations. I'm not a completionist anymore. I'm not going to clear every raid - probably not even every dungeon. It's too late... I'll never get gud in pvp. And this season I won't hit max power. Even if Bungie is literally giving levels away. I just don't have the juice. And I really just don't care. But that's ok. Lowering my expectations has allowed me to keep loving the game. I don't expect Bungie to make everything perfect. I expect them to behave as the business they are. I try to maintain a realistic view of what's possible. I find the things I like and ignore the rest. I don't want to tryhard nearly as often as I used to. So I don't. And I've found a way to be happy with it. Mostly.

1 返信Well put. I agree. I still see people reply “skill issue” when a player complains about hard content. Well duh! Of course it is. We are not all equal and no amount of gear, coaching or prodding will ever change that. It was a very entertaining read.👍.

11 通の返信Light level should go up despite the difficulty level. T5 gear should come from Ultimate. T4 gear should come from Grandmaster and so on.

The good news is there is an easy fix to your Titan not feeling powerful, it’s just a build issue. 1. It’s a weapons focus build, so you want to focus on weapons stat, grenade (for healing on Solar) and bits of health. 2. It’s a solar Build around MG, Auto… so using Stasis and Void Scout you are missing on a lot of powerful synergies. 3. This weekend is the season last Trials of Osiris, and even if you need to go get slapped in the face by cheaters for two hours, I highly recommend you try to get your hands on Unwavering duty, most importantly with Kill Taly, and if possible incandescent. But as long as you have KT you’re good. Killing Taly is going to give a flat 25 or 30% dmg boost after 3 kills until you reload or stow the weapon, which will almost never happen. 4. Helmet, chest, leg mods, you want to go full on solar and heavy ammo generation, so you never run out. 5. Check a video on the aspect and fragment, you want Sol Invictus for survivability and the one to create fire sprite as they heal you to, you want to also max restauration duration. With all that, you are going to feel a big difference in your Titan, and except for farming the MG is a matter a min to change. It’s a fun and potent build as long as you don’t have Famine Ammo modifiers.

1 返信OP: 😂 …though you’re not wrong! I’m at 550 x3…achieved just by doing vanilla stuff and getting drops from events and PvP during said events. As soon as I hit 350 or so, my portaloo missions switched up a level - to Master, I think?! Well, they were doable… Thereafter, at certain LL gains, it switched up another level - GM then Ultimate…both of which were definitely not my normal setting preferences; and that’s when and why I switched over to the PvP pathway…at at least that was doable - for this old 0.5% Tortoise! 😁 The whole Neomuna Overtuna vibe that was introduced around Lightfail - is a complete turn-off for me. So, there’s even more stuff that I don’t / won’t do ‘in game’ besides my refusal to engage with Raids / Dungeons / Quests that are just simply ridiculous grinds for either an RNG lacklustre ‘must have’ weapon / armour drop, or - more likely, no drop at all. And by ridiculous, I refer to those that tell of doing 50-100+ completions to get the said desired ‘must have’ drop. 🤪 My old buddy was one…I ran a few with him, but it just got too ridiculous for me, so I stopped at around the fifth run. Some weeks later, after a long silent spell, he proudly told me that he’d finally got EoT…and then left the game. 🥵 And, he is a very smart fellow (PhD)… IMHO: Raise the ceiling to whatever heights for those few that seek those challenges…but don’t raise the floor for those who don’t want the Neomuna Overtuna nonsense vibe…which is currently where we’re at…😡 Not all Guardians are Dark Soul fans…🧐 That is all.
