I disagree. I love my Ahab Char with BA and use it sometimes for Unstoppable champions. It’s not the best at that but it’s not supposed to be. Its utility is not in anti-champion work nor should it be used to kill anything tanky. It’s a non-exotic primary, after all. If you attempt to use it outside of its intended scope, then of course it’ll feel inadequate. It’s a great trait that, if you build into it, will serve you well. This sounds more of a buildcrafting problem than a trait problem.

The problems are exasperated by the fact that we have locked loadouts in the majority of activities and that matchmade activities have unlimited revives, but the limitations of buildcrafting become more noticeable as new archetypes are introduced and more are left behind. Like I said in my above comment, the element system in Destiny needs a rework so that two weapons in the same element can do the same basic things (other than a small explosion when breaking a matching shield) but can be built to do more if you choose a solar subclass or solar abilities in Prismatic. In D1, elemental burns impacted both incoming and outgoing damage, so there was a risk-reward aspect. Now that the effects are separated and surges are hardly ever in matchmade activities in the Portal, most players are drawn to the same meta builds season after season. And don't even get me started on weapons having set elements despite not having that in D1 or Vanilla D2.

Locked loadouts has been a thing for many years now, especially in higher difficulty content. It only seems like it’s everywhere now because everything outside of the Portal has been effectively sunset. This is a problem of insufficient content. Limitations on build-crafting!? We’ve never had more options than we do today. The reason it feels restrictive is because of the New Gear system and the borderline mandatory need to apply the Avant Garde/Touché modifier on most activities. I don’t even understand your argument on weapon elements. Incandescent, Voltshot, and Destabilizing Rounds are basically all the same. Burning Ambition, Jolting Feedback, and Demoralize all do more-or-less the same thing. What is the problem? These traits are all useful for different reasons and synergize with our builds. I think you’re fixated on the wrong issues. Mechanically, the game is in great shape (the abundance of interesting weapon traits, armor sets, recent buffs to abilities, etc.). The real problems plaguing this game are the Portal (terrible decision), lack of content (arbitrary power leveling is not content), introduction of New Gear (restricts loadouts), etc.

  • Having an elemental mod slot on weapons would be awesome like a scorching mod for solar or devouring mod for void etc

  • Never thought about that. If I remember correctly, years ago Bungie said that they couldn’t expand on the mod system because their coding wouldn’t let it work. I don’t know if that was true or they were so scared of the backlash that they reverted back to random rolls. I really hope Bungie sees that the crafting and modding system is better in the long-term than random perks.
