If this isn’t the ultimate feedback I don’t know what is…. At this point just revert all the changes, the portal and the grind requirements will kill this game and soon… It’s not too late … don’t let hubris kill something that was once beautiful!
I totally agree with you. I just think it is too late. Now you know me, I’m one Bungie’s biggest critics, and in no way am I defending them with the following points, but I think this game is done. Why is D2 done? The biggest issue is the engine. Whatever fancy new name they gave that old Tiger engine, when they last overhauled it for D2?, it’s very very old. It’s full of spaghetti code and it’s an utter -blam!- to deal with apparently. And that evidence is right in front of us. Every time they introduce something to the game, 10 other things break. Even with small updates. I firmly believe that when they release Renegades the game will become unplayable due to the spaghetti code just having a massive hissy fit. Time will tell I suppose. The failure to overhaul or replace the engine entirely, for whatever reason has limited this game severely. Now I’m no developer, but I’m aware of what a Herculean task that would be. The other problem is that those people who had the most experience with the current engine and coding are either no longer at Bungie or have been moved over to, that turd, Marathon. The other problem is that old tired engine is what makes the game feel so great to play. It literally is one of the few positives in the game, but it is also a massive millstone around the neck of the game too. Now we come to the issue before us. The Portaloo has been added to this cluster--blam!- of a situation, there are limited people to change anything, and your best staff are working on another game that will tank the studio. They all know it, we know it. Morale has to be in the gutter. So I just can’t see how Bungie can right the D2 ship. They have neither the will, the talent, the manpower, the humility, the time or the money to make the changes that some or many of us want to see. It’s an accumulation of bad decisions upon bad decisions upon bad decisions, that have all come to fruition at a time when Bungie is at its weakest. I just don’t see how they do the “ol’ Phoenix rising from the flames” trick that Bungie are renowned for.

 • The engine isbt filled with spaghetti code, the game is filled with spaghetti code for 2 reasons - firstly they thought they'd be building a new game after 2 years so didn't build it to last - secondly Activision cut it all up & made them use the cuttings to use in future new games so it's all the same broken code & they've never had chance to rebuild it all. Their money driven schedule has never allowed a reboot & even now they're still adding old content on top so it's still getting worse. An engine is more a tool set than a car engine, I believe all the top companies have been using the same engines for decades, Microsoft as an example, still use jet & it's 34 years old. Marathon is using tiger & again they'd only really switch to unreal 5 which would require full staff retraining & that engine is riddled with issues & the only real comparison of a big open world FPS using it is borderlands 4 & that game barely functions on console, starts having memory leaks after 20-30 mins.

 • I think we both want the game to be great again… Agree with you on the engine … let’s hope things can be turned around but I’m not optimistic… Even the satisfaction of being right about all of this feels hollow….

Nothing would make me happier in terms of gaming if Bungie could pull this off. I feel the same hollowness. It isn’t like we haven’t been telling them what they needed to do though. Bad leadership has caused this, and if Pete got his payout Sony should counter sue for that money back due to his ineptitude tanking the studio.
