Here is the order of expansions with story campaigns based on their release. If you want to experience D2's story progression as it was intended, follow this order:
1. Shadowkeep
2. Beyond Light
3. Witch Queen
4. Lightfall
5. The Final Shape
6. Edge of Fate [i](latest active campaign)[/i]
Following the Edge of Fate campaign is the current rewards pass content, Ash & Iron.
Forsaken and the 30th Anniversary packs include additional activities and gear, but do not have story campaigns.

Each campaign's quest will instruct you where to go and what to do. If you don't have a quest for a particular campaign already in your character's Quests log, check the quests terminal in the Tower by the postmaster. You can use the tracking feature to see an indicator on the Destinations screen for where you need to go for the quest step you're currently on, or inspect a quest to use the option to launch a mission directly. Lightfall starts with the mission, "First Contact", on Neomuna (Neptune). If you've already progressed partially through that campaign, refer to the quest in your Quests log for what you need to do next. The Final Shape starts with the mission, "Transmigration", above the Traveler (aka The Pale Heart).
