It's hilarious hearing them talking about the security of the game and whatnot in pvp. Im sure they are doing something, its just not effective or probably related to their goals

Like most things that go mainstream, quality falls down a hole. Problem is, gamers specifically (and consumers in general) have been conditioned to accept garbage on the basis that they think it's preferable to having nothing. Competition in this space being effectively nil has contributed to this as well. When the same 3-4 parent companies own every studio, there's little incentive to "do it better" with each release. This is why they're extremely angry with Silksong and its development team, running propaganda campaigns and outright lying about things to make it look like the AAA model is the only "sustainable" model and the indie team behind Silksong are somehow doing damage to the system by staying low budget and charging less while putting out a quality product.
