Hence why people are leaving in droves… everything is a “bore.” Not that there isn’t anything desirable. I’ve played a ton of Comp to get a roll with firefly/headstone… T4 and decent other perks. Done with Comp forever now. It’s a system designed around challenge for the sake of challenge which is a piss poor way to entice a lot of players to play a game. My fireteam has always looked forward to GM content loops hunting weapon rolls and figuring out the new additions to the playlist. Power “grinding” had that end goal in mind. That doesn’t exist anymore. There is zero incentive to grind T5 weapons if you have a good T4. T5 armor is a slight stat bump. You get to say you have T5 stuff. Hey you beat this Conquest mission once… Destiny is sorely lacking the content updates that seasons brought to playlists/rituals as well as whatever seasonal activity was active. There are no rituals now except soullessly doing the same 6 things over and over after 400… and those are only “rewarding” by choosing the same 4-5 negative modifiers that you don’t personally hate and make it as easy as possible to get gear and power… to be used for exactly what? I can’t repeat GM level Conquests to farm guns I want. I can’t farm T5 armor to get my perfect rolls until I’ve beaten all the content where that power/tier would be helpful. It boggles my mind that ZERO of the old dungeons and raids were brought forward with the new tier system and “dungeon lairs” is another piss poor attempt to remedy that oversight. And the answer is so easy… be transparent and say that not all that old content can come forward at once but we plan on bringing dungeons into the new system as we progress, dungeon weapons and armor being tiered, etc.

Genius discovery.
You can indeed farm GM difficulty over and over. In fact you have more GM activities to choose from and there is no weekly rotation to lockout. They’ve already stated they’re adding more content into the portal. Said that before it even released.
• And the quintessential Bore response… bravo You knew exactly what I meant when I said GM contentI as an end goal… and it had nothing to do with the name of the “level” of difficult or power requirement they currently call Grandmaster. I’ve been more gracious than most to Bungie over the years because the vast majority of the content they’ve released has been fun and engaging for me and the crew I play with. The Portal is absolutely the worst, most empty and unrewarding experience they have ever tried to pass off as GAME system or content. They could have literally integrated the new armor and tier system for new gear into the old playlists with the typical rollover of previous Battlegrounds and exotic missions into the rotators, even added a Crawl Ops space in the vanguard for things like Coil and Nether… and I dare say people would’ve had a generally positive view of Edge of Fate. They killed progression/reward systems at vendors for no perceivable reason when they could have left them alone and at least given people a reason to interact with vendor and earn those REWARDS for playing that activity type. There are so many places where the decisions made are literally baffling and nonsensical. And it stinks because the campaign and loot are good… but the rest is piss poor decision after piss poor decision. The game felt expansive and somewhat alive at the end of Heresy compared to what it is now.

An activity that used to have a chance at dropping an item now guarantees 1-5 drops. And those drops at higher tiers are better than lotuses to be. What about that is less rewarding? I get a tier 5 trials drop every trials match. Sometimes multiple. Let’s say pre EoF I wanted to farm high stat trials armor or adept guns. You’re saying I would be rewarded more back then? Same applies to regular crucible and strikes. By all means explain how giving you better loot or often is less rewarding.

The Portal is unrewarding because… 1) as an experience, it kills the breadth of the game world and experience by reducing it to a screen of limited menu choices. There is a reason Bungie grayed out the rest of the world map. It compressed they game immensely and made it FEEL SMALL. 2) as a loot source because the scope of the loot is miniscule when compared to the rest of the game not included in the Portal. Armor sets were a great idea long overdue… only two of them have NOTICEABLE build implications beyond what you get from a subclass verb like Amplified 3) the TIME investment to reach consistent T5 rewards is beyond what even some dedicated hobby players like myself want to complete. I was showered with loot in Heresy and it felt more impactful than the 4 drops of random useless armor that actively ignores the archetype mod of my ghost. Solstice felt rewarding… a lot of drops that could fall at higher tier than my 400 level at the time. Heavy Metal felt like crap… I had two options that might drop from a game mode that felt horrible to play, no cosmetics to earn or ways to improve outcomes. I don’t think the API even recorded wins and losses. I think I only won 4 game for the week. End of the day… the proof is in the pudding and the Portal is overwhelmingly criticized for its experience… and people will praise something that is good which is why Solstice was lauded for its experience.
