• Can you link directly where you're getting these figures? I know where you're getting your stats from (Warmind.io) but I can't seem to find the actual numbers myself. I've always had issues with Charlemagne though lol. But according to MMO-populations Destiny 2 only has an active daily player count of 127,000+ across all platforms. But Steam count is sub -60,000 and steam is about a 1/3 so it should be around 180,000... This is the problem I always run into with Destiny 2 player numbers

  • Steam numbers are concurrent, so live at the time the snapshot is taken. It takes 1 snapshot every 3 hours, so 9 times a day. The other numbers are daily, so unique bungie account logins within 24 hours so reset to reset. Imagine a petrol station. The steam number is 12, there's 12 people in there right now lining up to pay. The Charlemagne number is 1'700, that's how many customers went in during the whole working day. On this forum you get people constantly using the 12 number to say the petrol station is dead, but context is crucial. The guy who runs warmind, has a discord bot called Charlemagne, they both pull from bungies API so it's what bungie see & the best factual data we can get There's detailed breakdowns of platform numbers, activities played etc There's a twitch channel called cbro who does the same thing but streams the live number, so like steam but for the whole game, with more frequent refreshes, every 30 mins I think. Any other source is pulling numbers from thin air

Checked the numbers myself that is true. I do think concurrent player numbers are still something to think about though, iirc from a GDC presentation or something I vaguely remember reading Bungie does factor in concurrent players quite heavily in reports. Though concurrent is a way to get a good look at interest over time not exactly the playerbase size, and PC while the smallest platform was hitting 300k concurrents on Lightfall and TFS launches while with EoF couldn't even break 100k until the raid released even then only reached like 108k. I also saw a chart about campaign completions in the first week of TFS -> EoF and only 30% of the amount of people that completed TFS campaign completed EoF campaign in the first week. The completions are probably higher now but not by much I'd wager. The completions are probably the most worrying thing for Bungie honestly because that gives a good look at how many people purchased the expansion. Definitely though interest over time is waning due to straight up less content. OP is not correct though in half the playerbase leaving with EoF.

  • Thank you for posting actual data instead of steam chart and spouting off false metrics, its been driving me insane people don't understand steam is the smallest of the destiny communities. It always has been. And a game that averages close to half a million players those are still decent numbers free to play or not. While I think the game itself is in a bad state the fans of the series will keep chugging along.

  • Tne frustrating part is people think steam is daily & don't understand what concurrent means.

  • Id say not as many as you'd think. Been following numbers for many years & there's this core base of around 450k who seem to log on daily, or very close too, that's my addict number as I like to call it. The people who take everything bad bungie throw at them, & still play, a lot, and barely miss a day. Very very rare when numbers drop below 450k outside of older stuff like curse. I base the games health & survival off that 450k figure, once the addicts start dipping out you're in real trouble. We dipped to 350k a few times during last year & I feared the end BUT soon after it was back to 450k & parity was restored. Seeing the 750k day 1 number told me that it's probably sold around 500k copies, the addicts all buy, they always do. So adding on 50k from the other 300k players is probably close to real, that leaves 250k players who didn't buy, of those 100k have stopped playing, & I think it's a safe bet that the 150k of those who are still playing own something because there's not much free to play stuff really or no incentive to, but minimum 1/2 mill sales, for something that probably cost them very little to create outside of wages may be a success to them. Of course that could be completely wrong 😆 & numbers could plummet anytime, the next few months will tell the future of the franchise.

  • I speak from personal experience, being an addict myself. For me, it's part of my autism, 1 obsession at a time, only 1, & when I move on I never return as I've found something new. You have to be addicted in some way, shape, or form, to put up with he tthings bungie have done & how neglected this game has been, yet still play every day. It's why once we dip below that 450k for an extended period, imo the game is in real trouble. Right now, it's doing well all things considered, its how it holds going forward because it won't grow at all, possibly ever & if a big % suddenly hit 400 then instantly get reset to 200 & give up, it'll be telling. 400-450 is no joke, even for an addict, it'll break people i think & outside of the grind there's no content.

So, they'll stop at 400? Having access to amazing loot? I spent some time this week... The last thing you want to do, is repeat the same activity over and over again. There's a little bit of nuance there... And K1 logistics is one of the worst solo ops, lol. Tbh, Conflux is probably the best... but when you're on bubble, spamming the same thing is certainly not optimal. I'm probably going to write a leveling guide in a week or so. Also, you can play with underleveled friends, carry them... where everyone gains progress... Tbh, I was expecting nothing... but I got powered drops helping them do a couple reqs for Guardian Rank. 😇👍💠

  • No there is zero nuance there. Once 400, the only ways to level up is zavalas weekly (2 drops) & then prime engrams, prime engrams drop on average every 20 portal activity completions. Regardless of if you do PvP, pinnacle ops, fireteam ops, trials, or anything, so to be efficient you do the shortest activity over & over. Who mentioned k1? Caldera is by far the best activity

  • Not true. GM matchmaking goes live in the next couple weeks. Playing the same activity over and over is NOT optimal. Following your character's slots... blue'ing out IS. I had done the math previously, but I wanted to test it in game. If your slots are at parity with each other you'll see some gains. Because RnG doesn't matter as much. The more your slots are out of balance/un-even the worst it gets. You can help mitigate this by pulling parity drops from the current or old season passes. If armor side is open (minus class) pulling exotics can help blue. Saving Vendors rewards to strategically use them.... So yeah, there's absolutely nuances to it. I repeated a fair amount of Conflux last night into this morning, figuring out some of those nuances. And I still haven't played Caldera once. Because literally it hasn't rolled an icon or any greens any of the days I've played. K1 I've played, lol. I mean I like it... and I don't. You know the purple spikes? Well usually there's an enemy or a modifier. Almost every time I play it the Spikes just follow me the entire time. In the Air it follows me. If I stop moving for more than 2 secs... it's on me. I don't like that. It's kinda fun... but it's not as fast as people think. I know the boss has an immunity exploits... But, If you're not devoting a slot to Eager Edge... skipping the first section. I kill all those champions before I complete the despawn objectives. Conflux is lot of fun. I like that the Most Wanted enemy always spawns in the same spot in the beginning... when it does. I also like Eternity/Creation... but Conflux can actually be pushed. If it's taken, the 2 minis in the 1st section can be nuked in secs. If it's Vex... you can rush that section by learning the spawn cadences and locations... all that sacrifices do is make it take longer. But if you prevent most or all, it goes quick. Probably the squishiest bosses too. So yeah, I farmed that. It was often frustrating, I was blue'ing and I was still getting dupes... It had an icon last night. I had much better success, mixing it up. By targeting slots... and following the bonuses. Which I was also doing.... Not that it didn't offer any gains... but there were many nada runs... dupes or on a high slot. The only times mixing it up wasn't working for me is when someone posted B+/A in LFG, but they ran B or lower. Otherwise, I can't even remember a single run I did that didn't level me. I'm sure there was probably 1 or 2... but it's been surprisingly rare. To the point where I thought, they fixed drop protection. But then I tested 'optimal' practically, lol. Drop protection doesn't manifest there. I'd often get double drops... same power & slot too... and some of those were dupes... i.e. 0 gains. Managing your progression and following the signs IS Optimal... Not spamming the same instance over and over. By the math... and also validated in my practical experiences. Not that you can't... or that farming something for like an hr... like maybe 5-10 runs when your slots are even, won't grant progress. But staying in that same activity for hrs and hrs isn't that great. Speed doesn't automatically mean most efficient or effective. Certainly, here it doesn't. Measured run for run OR comprehensively. Those are the facts. 😇👍💠
