The new gear bonus is fine! It's a nice touch to add a little damage to the new weapons, or a bit damage resist to the new armour.
The old gear will be just as useful if the bonuses existed or not... having the bonuses is quite literally a bonus! Consider it a free artifact perk for extra weapon damage, for example.
You might be insinuating the next bit, and apologies if that's the case... but it feels like the negative aspect comes from the tier system. So if you want tier 5 gear with seasonal bonuses and set bonuses (on the armour), then that's a pretty repetitive grind season by season (or dlc by dlc).

Don't diminish these bonuses. A bonus is a bonus. Ten percent more damage will go much further in the long run than you think. Same with 15% damage reduction. A bit of a prediction here but I can honestly see caveats being made to LFGs that require you to have these bonuses maxed out. And that's if you have the right kind of high tier gear, in the first place. It's basically adding a new layer of elitist vetting to an already toxic elitist community(you know who they are).

Your argument is kinda flat. You state the obvious like we don't realize it. Of course people can create their own fireteams. This is not about that, silly goose. In a sense, you brought a nothing burger to this argument.
-
It's not flat. You can't force anyone to play with anyone. Plus, the majority of players won't have access to that super high end gear anyway so it should not be an issue to gather enough people. If someone's looking for at least T4 gear, that's their right just like it's their right to run a toxic raid or tell people that they have to play whilst eating vanilla ice cream. Just do your own thing and everything will be fine.
-
Yes, it is flat. You're bringing the whole "can bring a horse to water but can't make it drink" analogy to the argument. Then, go on to promote the whole gear issue and prove my point that it will be an exclusive elitist thing that will only further perpetuate a cycle of toxicity in this community. Only now we can see its cadence since they stated every six months it'll turnover. You're doing Bungie a disservice by going against their slogan of creating worlds that inspire friendship. Gotta love it.

You're just looking for issues where there are none. There's still going to be no shortage of "average" people to play with. As always the hosts decide on who they invite and how they run their fire teams. If someone doesn't like it, they can look elsewhere or create their own.

Yeah perhaps that will be the case for lfgs, and it will be a huge disappointment if it ends up being the case... hopefully not! I would still prefer the bonuses, as it's free damage! I'd still be using old gear as well; plenty of things that will be either more useful or still put out better damage in rotations.... the firing range will be very interesting to find out how it all compares.
-
it's free damage!
It's not "free damage" when content is designed around its existence being the default state. What's going to happen is that Old Gear will feel penalized rather than New Gear feeling privileged. Don't pretend this isn't going to be how it goes down.

There's an artifact mod right now... deep alchemy, which overcharges sundered weapons. This is a 25% damage bonus for overcharged activities with the artifact mod selected.... those weapons are also really good anyway! The new seasonal bonus is like adding a more impactful, but less potent version of this for free. I don't see why extra damage is a bad thing?
