Regardless of the few posters defending it or saying it's not so bad, pre-orders are down massively
Apparently a ton of the playerbase cares about their previous investment and time being devalued
this isn't the system the success of bungie was built on, it's something new and entirely focused on endless grinds to service the metrics of a cash shop based live service
this destiny maintenance team didn't like how many players were super happy being done with the armor grind, so they are throwing basically all of the old armor in the trash with a massive power creep on new armor, they are throwing way more perks on new weapons, and they are adding a useless 5 world tiers to increase the grind from killing stuff to loot you really want motivated by more power creep on the guns on tier 5.
they are outta ideas or innovation, so they just added a ton of power creep to everything and now it also restarts every 6 months
not a single part of this decision was based on player value, it is just to service their metrics for cash shop buys
call it sunsetting, call it whatever, but the game will now be grindier and everyone wants the best gear which will now require way more grinding and redo'ing a lot of it every six months

Old Bungie and maybe D1 Bungie.
The above is why Sony spent 4 Billion to buy them. Their mastery of getting people to plop down cash for overpriced DLC, Seasons, Dungeons and Cosmetics and grind the same slim content over and over with no purpose.
Bungie top devs told insiders a year ago they would lean even more heavily into the pointless grind because it's "easier" on them. No mention of their responsibility to their customers. They know that there are some that will buy anything and that's good enough (they hope) to get them through the next 12 months before they jump ship.
I'm rooting for Sony shutting Bungie down hard in 9 months or less, but if instead Bungie makes Sony their greatest victim, I'll have some grudging admiration for that. :)
