revenant act 1 is embarrassingly bad

first off, credit where credit's due, the onslaught revamp is good stuff and the ui changes are legitimately helpful and then there's tonics. gonna keep it simple: there are too many steps between "i want to make a tonic" and "i have a tonic that's ready to use". there also seems to be no in-game indication that "create five of the same green tonic in one go" is how you unlock blue tonics and gain access to fieldwork speaking of fieldwork, this is quite possibly the single laziest addition to d2 i've seen in a very long time. i'm pretty sure the voicelines at the end of the major fieldwork are glitched, because one of my fireteam members couldn't hear them at the end of the first one we did while i and our third could, and then we did another one as a duo later and neither of us heard the dialogue at the end of that one and i can't believe y'all thought "kill 15 enemies in 2 minutes" was worth gating like this. scratch that. i can't believe y'all thought this was content worthy of implementing in d2 in the first place. y'all put more effort into fishing, for goodness sake this next bit features what can kind of sort of count as spoilers in a world where it's considered an actual story, so be fairly warned
so eramis chooses to come to space jail instead of continuing her anti-human adventures, because fikrul keeps yeeting her forces and crow asked nicely. cool. decent enough so far. only problem is that in the very next scene, crow's got a gun pointed at her. like bro she already put the space handcuffs on willingly. chill out a bit and then fikrul just shows up out of nowhere, yeets all the fallen on the helm (whom we're supposed to believe is basically the entire crew), calls crow his daddy, and leaves without elaborating further. i get that diversity is supposed to be our strength but this really wasn't good planning on the vanguard's part. never mind that if this guy is supposed to be strong and all-knowing enough to just show up in the enemy's base of field operations and "borrow" every fallen in the immediate vicinity... how has he NOT driven them into extinction already? heck, what's stopping him from magically appearing in the last city and doing the same thing? so we're barely two cinematics into this story and my suspension of disbelief is already shot, and then failsafe drops a witty line and we're... on earth. we were JUST ON EUROPA. HOW DID WE GET TO EARTH.
my friends' comments said it all. "i feel like there were three or four cinematics here that just never got made" "this is your game on layoffs" "so when does the story start making sense" if you look at the descriptions of all the tonic ingredients, they'll spoil the act 2 and 3 activities for you, and there's a non-zero chance those are gonna be some good stuff too. i'm just impressed that they managed to write a worse story than the one they had for last season, and put all the effort into this convoluted mess of a tonic system instead of actual content not named onslaught.
