From my understanding, the mission only becomes selectable after you beat it the first time. I believe this means that if you leave during the first time you’re running it, you might have to do the overthrows again. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong.

This I actually tested and can confirm you aren’t able to just pull someone into the mission. The person who has it unlocked will have a message appear on it that says something like “a member of your fireteam hasn’t attuned with the light and darkness yet.”
