Just another fight

I’m trying the new dungeon, solo. You jump around, find some scorn boss, and blindly go and try to figure out what’s going on, or, like most people do, YouTube. No story, no cutscene, no explanation, nothing. Compared to other games, that’s the one thing lacking for me personally. There is never any explanation as to what the heck is going on, you have to figure it out. Which can be fun, but only for those who have an abundance of time. I don’t often have that time, or the desire for trial and error. I can play, I just don’t want to mess around. So what? Spoiled content creators thank Bungie for their guides by telling us to go farm this or get the next best weapon. It’s not a good system. All the explanation we need should be in game. Just my 2 cents. Who cares right?

Agreed. I noticed on my 1st raids and dungeons.. there is simply no story or path hook in.. is there even a direct story hook in for seasons within a DLC? Also no game I have ever played relies on youtubers so much for instruction on what the hell to do with everything.. No easily accessible tutorials (for champions, abilities, aspects..etc) or test areas (no Tribute Hall anymore).. The game size doesn't allow for this quantity (breadth) of stuff (that would impact quality greatly).. and instead they give you depth (to minimize the size of the game) with subclasses, complexity with mods/builds... but what you have is a cube that needs to get bigger but they are only able to fill it with so much stuff. Destiny 2 is Minimal Viable Product 101.

    • Sounds to me that you want a message on screen that says "Press X to kill the boss".

      • I think it was a mistake to lock all of the lore collectibles in such a way that you can't find them on your first run (unless playing with someone that has already done it). I understand that the quest is there to help you access them in a particular order, but that sense of being rewarded for the exploration wasn't quite there. My friend and I always do blind duo runs on day 1, we spent maybe 2 hours of our Ghosts of the Deep run looking for the lore items. Here, we realised very quickly that all of the secrets we find would require Dispel and thus be inaccessible to us. Even picking up a couple of audio logs in an incorrect order can do a lot for adding to the gameplay and how the activity relates to everything else that's going on. That said, this is a relatively small gripe in what I thought was otherwise an excellent Dungeon that seemed to take on a lot of the feedback that people had from GotD; no traversal sections felt overly long and empty, the boss health is much friendlier to the solo player and the mechanics don't take long to execute - with room for a skilled player to make it go faster, too. As for how those mechanics are presented to us, I think it would be a colossal mistake to have the game give step by step instructions at each encounter. Raids and Dungeons are the only content this game has that can actively pull back players that aren't interested in the regular seasonal stuff, and the blind experience is a huge part of that. The lock puzzle is a great example; it stumped many people and probably wasted thousands of hours, cumulatively, but everyone then knows the solution for subsequent clears and can do it effortlessly. What fun would it be if the game pointed out every lock and told you which way to make it turn?

      • I'm genuinely asking because I don't actually care about the story and skip the cutscenes. I just wanna play lol, but anyways, the question: Did the quest not give any exposition? Like what you pick up from Ikora? I'm mashing buttons so I can go Jenn-ocide some more skorn but I figured it would be there.

As for the mechanics, they are not too hard to figure out, but if the game told you what to do it would take the fun out of blind runs. Yes Youtube guides exist, but that's no reason for the game to spell out how to fight the boss. Running it solo sounds like the bigger issue here. Since the thing is made with 3 people in mind and it is easier for 3 people to figure out the mechanics and not be overwhelmed by the boss and ads all the way. Then you can try your hand at doing the solo challenge runs. My two cents to that. [quote]Compared to other games, that’s the one thing lacking for me personally. You also get more details to the story as you pick up the collectables. The story behind dungeon is pretty easy to understand IMO. [quote]So what? A lot of player hate it when games do not give you 5 seconds to figure out the puzzle before giving you the answers to it. Keep in mind that Destiny is part RPG and not just a FPS. Also can we stop scapegoating youtubers about every little thing? This game has been telling us to figure out the mechanics in endgame since 2014, long before there were popular destiny youtubers. This is just the type of game that Destiny is.

        • I'm confused what exactly it is you're upset about. Are you mad that in dungeon and raid content, Bungie gives little to no hints on the encounters? Or are you mad the story as to why we're there isn't apparent? Because if either one is the case, then you need to play other games.

            • Block of text makes it hard to read but, it looks like your mad that Bungie doesn't have a built in guide for the dungeon and that you have to go to outside sources? If that's what your saying then I'm baffled, there was nothing complex about the dungeon. It's the same stand in a circle, kill adds, dps the boss for every fight. Figuring out the fights is most of the fun of going in day one for any dungeon/raid. The cage puzzle was very simple and the only reason it would be hard is if you refused to look around the room or talk/type with your team.

              • Most of these types of games don’t tell you what to do. Mechanics are usually a puzzle for you to figure out All the info you need IS in the game. How else do you think the content creators figured it out in the first place? If you’re too lazy to either try it for yourself or watch a YouTube video during your lunch break I don’t know what to tell you. Everything you need is in the game.

My clan runs it blind, we always figure the mechanics our fine. Being handheld through a dungeon would be boring af for the first time. If you don't have the time for it or find discovering mechanics yourself onerous, then wait for a guide. I definitely don't want the game to outright tell me thatd spoil it for me Btw while I'm here can someone tell me which warlord owned it. There are a few names on the list of warlords with really good lore

                • I don't do endgame content because I refuse to jump through hoops for Bungie. They aren't fun as far as I'm concerned. Seasonal activities for storyline progression are bad enough already. I don’t need to deal with the bs that goes along with dungeons/raids.

                • After having done the first boss, and being locked in a cage. We figured out the puzzle to open the prison doors. Not sure how a solo person can access all the pieces of the puzzle. It takes 3 unless it changes based on number of people in the dungeon.

Some people seem to be trying to pull the dungeons towards being more like a standalone game experience. They've become some of the most sought after content, but some people say they are quite YouTube oriented. And it's something a lot of people seem to pay for separately. And only some games can get away with expecting people to look for guides to complete harder or more challenging content. It might be partially due to the team thing but this game has a habit of piling on non-self-explanatory stuff that some enthusiasts somewhere demanded and then it ends up with this stuff that isn't hard in a self explanatory or guiding way all over the game tbh. And everyone that likes the game a lot eventually gets similar things they like piled in, even if it seems like a relatively small addition. There needs to be things not like that to balance out the overall effect everyone doing that is having. This game has a lot of things in it some very large group of people aren't going to be doing by starting. And that's fine it just needs to be balanced out.

                  • Unfortunately, most of the story of that dungeon is locked away behind the dispel doors. In addition none of the armor or weapons have lore attached outside of the ghost an exotic. I don’t like that they locked it like that.
