Final Shape needs to be the BEST expansion released in Destiny to retain players post launch… I have an idea
At this point it is known that many players view the Final Shape DLC as their end in Destiny. Much of the community is repeating that they will see it through and be done. As someone that does not share that plan I really want Final Shape to keep players around. I have an idea that may bring some life back into the game that doesn’t involve Destiny 3 (which I think is best action to take, but I digress).
NOTE: I am not a game dev and I don’t claim that anything I’m about to mention is “easy”. I also do not claim that this is a realistic thing that Bungie should or would ever consider. I’m just bored and making a forum post because I care about this game a great deal. Also sorry if there are mistakes in here, writing this very late in the day
My idea, Firefight in Destiny. Yes, a horde mode. Hear me out. This mode would need to become a core playlist activity such as Crucible, Gambit, and Strikes for it to really save the game at least in the short term in my opinion. It would have its own vendor and rewards like everything else. With that out of the way let’s get to gameplay and mechanics.
Rounds would be separated in difficulty by increments of 3 as detailed below. At every 3rd round players can opt to swap loadouts to get ready for tougher enemies. Also this playlist can implement revive tokens and more can be obtained by completing every 3rd round. Enemy types would rotate every round (maybe a weekly rotator of enemy types to have a better idea what you’ll be up against).
Rounds:
1-3: Patrol difficulty. Very easy and fun just to use whatever loadouts and is new player friendly.
4-7: Neomuna patrol difficulty. Little tougher but nothing too crazy yet. Can still use pretty much any loadout and be okay.
8-10: Heroic Nightfall difficulty. Still no champions but maybe some modifiers in here and enemies are sorta fighting back now.
11-13: Legend difficulty. Things are getting tougher, some champs are spawning. Good loadouts are needed here.
14-16: Master difficulty. Good loadouts and some communication needed now. More champs and more modifiers.
17-20: GM difficulty. Also a bonus 4th round with unlimited supers literally just for fun before entering the super sweaty contest mode. Kinda a celebration for making it this far kind of deal. This also allows the rounds to end on an even 20 which makes more sense.
21-25: Contest mode. Includes a round for all enemy types (fallen, hive, vex, scorn, and taken). End game players that have to wait a year just to have contest raids can now get contest difficulty whenever.
Rewards: Structured like other playlist activities but as you complete higher difficulties you can get more to maximize replay ability.
Rounds 1-10: Legendary engrams, glimmer, cores
Rounds 11-13: Guaranteed cores(3)
Rounds 14-16: Guaranteed prisms(2)
Rounds 17-20: Guaranteed alloy or shard(1)
Rounds 21-25: Guaranteed to get all following rewards, Cores(6), Prisms(4), Alloy(1), Shard(1), memento, and a guaranteed piece of 65+ artifice armor (or just an exotic instead of artifice but I think artifice may be more enticing as there are easier ways to get exotics now). For the rewards in contest mode since it has 5 rounds I think it’s fair to give players all these rewards if they complete at least 1 round. At this point I think these guardians have proved themselves worthy.
Furthermore, anyone that gets to round 14 or beyond has a chance to get the episode’s emblem, shader, ship, sparrow, or memento for this activity. Also this is where I also would want to add a chance to get a deep sight harmonizer because replay ability is key and people would GRIND for those.
You can add double loot to this activity as well and players can really put in some time on getting various materials and loot. Especially with guaranteed alloys and shards from contest mode.
To wrap up I think this activity could function for a 3 man or 6 man activity. I think it would be insanely cool if bungie did ever implement this that they offer both. Mostly for those that have a hard time finding 6 people for raids as is. Realistically if this was ever considered I would imagine it would end up as a 3 man activity which again would be great but a 6 man in something like this would feel special.
I don’t expect anyone to read this let alone bungie but I had the idea and literally could not sleep until I got it out of my head and digitally into the world. I am 100% certain there are probably flaws in this and that not everyone will agree, it is impossible to please everyone. I really just thought it was a fun idea. Also can replace gambit, a literal dead game mode. Hell maybe bungie can add motes to this for power ups… now I’m rambling. Goodnight fellow guardians. See you in Final Shape, and hopefully beyond🤞🏻
