The method of the layoff is honestly not a big deal. Unfortunately, that is how most of them work. "If you know, you are not permitted to talk about it. If you don't know, SURPRIIIIIISE!" They don't give you much in the way of forewarning because they don't want to risk someone sabotaging the product. This is unfortunately just how things are done in tech. The timing and the reason behind the firings is much more concerning to me, in that they are doing their best to hide the actual reasons, is what concerns me. The method is shitty but not abnormal for the industry. Though seriously telling them on the last day of a month is ridiculous.

 • Ehhh if that's the case It makes a lot of sense. For a digital product like destiny a single disgruntled dev could probably do serious damage that could take weeks or months to fix, and do it fairly easily with a day or two prior to being fired. Where as a retail worker or something is gonna knock over a display TV or a pallet of pickle jars.

 • Usually its something more like time b**bs, exploits, back doors, or randsomeware. Not. That I am recommending anyone do something like that but the goal wouldn't be to make the product hurt now. It's to make something pop up like a jack a** in the box months or even years later once the code is so buried it won't just take weeks to find it, it could take months to fix it. All that networking cluster funk a few months ago that took them forever to fix? Non zero chance a ticked off employee buried something years ago that just suddenly popped up and screamed "SURPRISE MOTHER ****ERS!" Is that what happened? Probably not. It was probably just that Bungie is an awful company, but it is the type of thing you have to worry about people doing. See, if you let the company know that layoffs are coming, someone on staff may create something with a dead man switch. They insert a code every once in a while, don't even have to worry about doing it daily, in fact it is better if you don't, and everything is fine as long as you keep kicking the can. Then one day they get locked out of their accounts for layoffs. Oh what a shame he can't insert his timer reset code anymore... Oh welllll *tick tick tick tick tick* That's why tech companies don't let people know layoffs are coming. Now. Bungie laying everyone off on the last day of the month and stealing people's stock options? That's some bullshit. and that they get no pass for.
