Look at From Software with Elden ring (and all the souls games), Larian Studios with Baldurs Gate 3, Concerned Ape with Stardew Valley, Luca Galante with Vampire Survivors, Super Giant with Hades, Capcom with the RE series, Nintendo with the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Santa Monica Studios with God of War (and GoW Ragnarok)…
You know why these are all such critically acclaimed games that saw/are seeing huge success, with large and happy communities? Because they are games that were developed by big, small, or single person studios that all love their work, are passionate about it, and care more about what their fans will think of them and their game, than they do the profit of the game. Obviously profit is a big part of it, but just like with any creative or niche job in life, when you start doing it just for the money, instead of the passion for it, you begin to get sloppy.
You know what all that means? WE ARE TIRED OF MICROTRANSACTIONS. The reason you’re having trouble allocating resources and teams to developing content, is because you allocate all of those resources and your teams to Eververse! You need to get your priorities straight. Destiny 2 is already pretty much done for, so all I can hope is that your future releases take note of these other dev studios’ titles, and aim to replicate their success.
If you’re scared seeing that other studios have raised the standard of a good worthwhile to play game, then good. Maybe you’ll finally wake up.
!*!*!*! Read below before you comment about these games not being live service !*!*!*!
Edit: The difference in game genre has no bearing on the passion a dev studio can put into their game, and has no bearing on their decision to implement heavy microtransactions. These games are all examples of how passion over microtransactions creates better games with happier communities.
-
You judging the dev's passion for a game by microtransactions? Lol ok. To go along with that, you state that those devs didn't care about profits. Lol ok. Every dev cares about profits, cause it's a business for them. Without profits, they won't continue to get to make games. Hence why you see so many passionate studios closing/bought cause they didn't make profits. Lastly: you compared mostly games that have a complete experience out the box, meaning the game can be beat/finished, and besides patches to fix things (maybe a dlc later), the devs aren't continuously supporting the game with new content every 3/4 months, to destiny. A game that does just that. Which factors into which games do/don't have mtcs, the amount of mtcs, etc. You could've just said you dislike the game right now and taking a break lol.
-
4 通の返信No lie, destiny was a better game when we would just pay for the expansions and literally everything was available for players to earn. Micro transactions is ruining games in general, its not just destiny.
-
2 通の返信You literally listed a bunch of solo player games. Completely different than live service mmo.
-
1 返信Live service isn't really a genre. It's a format. That format doesn't lend itself well to producing high quality content because it functions like an assembly line. Elden Ring was painstakingly crafted over a number of years, time which live service games cant take because the success of a live service game hinges on being able to constantly drip feed people stuff that's just kind of okay.
-
11 通の返信yeah bungie you should take 3 years to make every single season and 6 years for every single dlc
-
Imagine thinking that a game being a live service game doesn’t effect its over all model of content or how polished that content can be. It absolutely does and you just show yourself to be an idiot by not understanding that. Also really big stretch to say that there is no passion from the developers. Really pulling that claim out of your -blam!-.

2 通の返信Roachにより編集済み: 8/14/2023 8:01:01 AMI'll be buying Balders Gate when it hits PS5, those developers deserve support, played a bit on my mates PC and I really enjoyed it. I will not be buying Final Shape. I don't care if it is the end of a ten year journey. When it comes to a road this rocky, as Destiny 2 has been, it's just cool to stop having to deal with all the bumps. Bungie and their products past, present and future are not worthy of my time and money. I'm looking forward to games like Balder's Gate and the new Witcher games on Unreal Engine in the next few years. Just got Elden Ring in the PS Sale. Still playing Witcher 3, Red Dead 2, Last of Us, Uncharted, both God of War games etc etc. Lots of good games out there worthy of time and effort to keep me busy. Bungie are going to continue to pump out mediocre content with as little effort as they need to put in and then monetise it as far as they can while they save money by using modified versions of modified versions of their game engine. The showcase will be full of pronoun touting back slappers bragging about how good Final Shape is, how its the best story they have ever done, how they have pushed the boundaries .. blah blah blah, as we filter through a selection of Dev's who tick all the boxes as they try to convince us that this time they have finally got it right. Then we will see some fast paced clips of Guardians leaping around, so we can't really see all the reskinned armour and weapons, in action scenes that will look nothing like the game. Then we will all be told to pre order so you can get this exotic weapon, which will be disabled within two weeks as it breaks the game, and some pointless "exclusive cosmetics". Yeah, count me out.
-
9 通の返信Stop supporting this game and this studio together and things will change. Keep supporting this monetization hamster wheel bs and you deserve a bad game...
-
11 通の返信Look, I don't care too much about the microtransactions part. Running an 'MMO' in this day and age without a monthly sub and/or a cosmetic store is stupid and is generally impossible with how expensive to run these games are. HOWEVER! You also need to make enough consistant content to keep your playerbase interested while also innovating at a steady pace. Let's make one thing clear. BUNGIE HAS UNDERDELIVERED AT A CONSISTANT RATE. I want to make this perfectly clear. At this point the playerbase should hold Bungie accountable. It has been long enough to where we should have expected Bungie to have figured out how to return to a closer state of Foresaken/TTK era of content releases. Seasons are at best a distraction with 1 new 'good' piece of content (raid/dungeon). Most cotent released during seasons are a distraction-bad. The story reliance is fine... IF BUNGIE WERE CONSISTANTLY GOOD AT TELLING STORIES. They are full of themselves. You aren't XIV's writing staff. It's not good, its inconsistant, rotating cast of characters we can't attach to due to the weekly story instead of allowing us to keep a consistant story to digest character interactions. It's not interconected in a good way and feels like a 'brand new episode' of a cartoon show rather than a 'game of thrones' build up of a story. This is the issue Bungie has ran into. They aren't overdelivering, they aren't even "Devlivering" on any other their most important pieces of content, while their seasons are basically trying to do 'catch up' for the year. WQ had a great campaign/story, but severely lacked a variety of post campaign content that didn't shake up the core game grind. BL was bad. Shadow keep was bad but cheap. LF was bad and had the same issue as WQ with lack of post campaign content only worse (1 new strike instead of 2). You can't charge 50$ for an expansion and expect us to be fine with it if we run out of things to do minus grinding old content/weekly raid at the 2nd week or faster while you are relying on 'drip feeding us' you just piss off your playerbase and make us feel like you are the problem.

1 返信TheShadowにより編集済み: 8/14/2023 1:39:58 PMAfter reading your post and looking at what has taken place over the years, I think a lot of you really need to start paying more attention to what has actually been going on. This business has been telling all of you these last few years where they actually stand, especially telling you guys this game is not a passion game to them. It's safe to say they look at this game as just another job, do our work, get paid, and move on. The split from Activsion should have given all of you a huge clue on what was going to happen, but a lot of you ignored it and kept buying "hoping things would improve" and the truth is, things only got worse. All the bad things about gaming got worse in this game, it was just slowly being worked into the game instead of all at once to work most of you over. What this comes down to is knowing the Bungie you hope for left this business years ago and that Bungie is never coming back. Get rid of that false hope this business plays off of because It's a weakness that has done absolutely nothing for you at all.

They won't wake up. They still live in the Halo days on Xbox. Other studios passed them years ago. Also, I don't think Bungie takes notes because they supposedly deliver "quality". Quality went out the door when they went to seasons.

20 通の返信Yeah but those aren't livr service products. Here's a hard pill to swallow. As scummy as bungie was at GDC They were 100% right. Business wise, it's impossible to deliver baldur's gate level quality every 6 to 12 months year over year.
-
You know what none of those games are? Live service. Not fighting you on MT's. They suck, but comparing this game to those is like apples and hand grenades. And no, not because of genre differences, but because of it being live service. If Bungie had a 4 year dev cycle on all their content, it probably would look closer to those titles than what we get, but they don't. Not saying Bungie can't do more than what they're doing. THEY CAN, but comparing it to BG3 or Elden Ring is just incredibly dumb.

E2BKにより編集済み: 8/15/2023 3:07:10 AM“We’re sorry but we absolutely must please our shareholders, and our shareholders demand that we lack in some areas in order to create a demand. Because capitalism. We’re aware that our shareholders are trust fund types with a lot of their money handed down. But still they require a return on their investment. Though it’s true Sony PlayStation now owns Bungie there is still a board we must report to. The board demands money and corporate growth. So unfortunately with the current management overhead we are unable to meet your request.”

3 通の返信bungie is well aware that they could provide more value, but they want the obscene amount of extra money they've been getting players are treated like a data blob rather than actual humans anything on the metrics that drives participation is automatically assumed to be 'fun' and participation and /timeplayed are all that matters in a cash shop game
-
I mean, I get what you are saying, but no one can argue the monetary success that Bungie has had with Destiny over the last 10 years. Bungie doesn't really give two -blam!- about other games' "critically acclaimed success" if they are still making bank.

1 返信Eazy-Eにより編集済み: 8/14/2023 6:55:30 PMFunny thing is, no matter how well these new games perform they'll never get the accolades they deserve. Gaming is handcuffed by twitch and YouTube. If you want your game over ran with fomo, pay to win, cash shops, then let nick mercs and his little crew advertise for you. After all, buy this from the shop and use code swagg.clapping for a discount

ULiano_IIIにより編集済み: 8/14/2023 5:50:31 PMImagine if they just kept everything as is with the Eververse resources.. added a Dust option along with the Silver option to every item... Took all the Seasonal Eververse stuff, added it back to the store permanently... Then... Added one more way to get the Eververse items IN GAMEPLAY.. How..well when you do a Pinnacle activity and get that challenge done... You also get a random Eververse Item. (Obviously I'd prefer to have a Legendary and Exotic only pool for these activities) So you have chances at Exotic Ornaments and Ships Sparrows, emotes... From just playing the dam game...

All you need to do instead of naming non live service games is mention Path of Exile. There's no excuse for any live service game being as predatory as they are when Path of Exile does what it does. Free to Play. They're even going to continue making PoE 1 content alongside PoE 2.
