Tired of nothing being done about griefing

I understand Bungie likes to justify they don’t have endless resources; but I’m absolutely tired of not having a space where I can just play and focus on a game. I can not count how many times someone’s used a racial slur/-blam!- or misogyny casually because they don’t like someone on their team for whatever reason. Alternately, today I had a warlock follow me around in crucible and push my character model out of cover three times in match because I asked them to ease up off behind me. All I can do is select report/griefing, provide zero context for what the issue is, and leave bungie to ignore that report in a massive database for years because they literally do not care to do anything actionable or transparent about it. I feel like having more players in your player base is significantly more valuable to you/important to your product design team than delivering a product where players that do that repeatedly genuinely face consequences for deliberately ruining the experiences of individuals who are licensing your game. Really tired of being called the n-word or t f-word because I dared to ask someone to be respectful. How are your management actively incorporating your company values into practice? Or is this exactly as I think, and of course nothing is actively being done to investigate poor behaviour simply because you don’t want to cover the costs of being accountable for branding yourself with a code of conduct that signals without contributing. I wish I could separate my enjoyment of immersion in Destiny with the real life harassment that’s tolerated through your voice channels and sandbox.

Summary after three responses: 1 user responding neutrally, 1 user trolling 1 user using -blam!- apologist arguments about deserving abuse. Spoiler: one of these people messaged me on PSN and said I deserved being called the n-word. Forgive me for anticipating that example might enlighten people that they’re part of the problem.

I’m AA, and all I can say is that my experience has been very different. Griefing is rare, and the only issues motivated by bigotry have been those that followed me off the forum (when it was more loosely managed) and into the game. I’ve found that both Bungie and the console platform owners (Sony and MS) basically have a zero-tolerance position. So the rare problems I’ve had were swiftly dealt with. Now, if what you’re describing in that Crucible match is typical of what is going on, then I (respectfully) ask you to consider the possibility that you are meeting trouble halfway. As a observer (with no vested interest here), of the incident you described? You came across as irritable and -blam!-…and messaging (as you implied) someone and insisting that they change their play to accommodate your preferences was kind of uncalled for. Just move to a differing part of the game if your styles are clashing. The game is a shared space. It is no one’s personal playground. So we all need to make allowances for one another. But if you are provoking people in this fashion, you are going to get hostile responses to the hostility you’re putting out there. (Not to mention the hostile tone of your post). That doesn’t excuse people stopping to bigotry. But I think if you take a more chill approach to dealing with other players, they will take one towards you as well.

      • I can't presume to know what your experiences with individuals such as the ones you've mentioned must have been like, but in a game with hundreds of thousands of active players at any given time, it's only reasonable to accept that some less-desirable elements will undoubtedly slip through the cracks. I'm not justifying Bungie's response to player behavior, but if you consider how many reports are submitted on a regular basis (I've personally seen people post on this forum that they report players simply because they lost a PvP match against them), sifting through and investigating every report is time consuming and not every individual violating the CoC or ToS will be caught. No system is infallible.
