Destiny wants to be 2 games, a PVE and PVP game. It is probably very difficult to balance this in Destiny due to how it was built, so the PVP portion did kind of fail, and it got worse over time. Now the focus is on Marathon. I hope Bungie have learned their lessons with Destiny and build a better PVP game with Marathon. But personally I don't care, I'm not interested in PVP - at least not in Destiny, and if Marathon is anything like Destinys PVP, I'm not interested in that either. It is unfortune if Destiny just gets forgotten by Bungie. Destiny should have been a PVE game. The PVP part should have been separate from the beginning - not needed to balance together with the PVE part. The vision was good, but Bungie did not listen to the players and evolved the game around their wishes. Instead they just listened to YouTubers and 24/7/365-gamers - making the game a game about reaching a certain level number that did not matter really, just sweatier with more repetitive gameplay so the proffessional players could make videos of how they slaughtered the normal players. The game should have been about the universe, about the grand story, about exploring - not the meaningless repetitive hunt for a number or near impossible-to-get gear. The game pretty much lost it's fun and just got to be frustrating. Now, I don't mind a challenging game, but the challenge should be fun, and you should always get rewarded for it. There should always be carrots to have, and if you succeed with a very high score, you should be rewarded some more. Now, as I feel it, it is just and endless, repetitive play that is unrewarding - every season looks a bit different, but the gameplay with all it's repetitiveness is the same.

  • I may be a bit out of my depth on this given that the Destiny franchise is really the only MMO I've played to any real degree, but I don't know that the game would have had the longevity it does without some element of PvP. Although I don't know that it's played as large a role as some would claim, the Crucible definitely had a big pull as far as player numbers go. If Bungie is to continue the franchise, removing it completely would be a possible death-knell for the next game they may introduce to the series. Perhaps they could put less emphasis on PvP, allowing more focus on the PvE element, but it might be something of a dicey move trying to find an appropriate balance to keep long-time PvP veterans coming back without recreating the sizable rift between both camps currently playing.

Yes, PVP is a part of Destiny as it has always been. But with Marathon on it's way (that probably is a better PVP game than Destiny, if Bungie learned their lessons), Destiny could shift it's focus to PVE. Many people are unhappy with Destinys PVP as it is, so probably today's Destiny PVP players will move to Marathon anyway. Bungie could keep PVP in Destiny, though. A way of making it less difficult to balance the equipment and metas in Destiny between PVP and PVE could be to make PVP launch with pre-destined equipment for everyone - in it's own sandbox environment. Let's say that if you start a match in a rather small map, everyone gets a handgun, a SMG and a sword. This equipment would be PVP-only - the same weapons and stats for everyone. The same goes with the armour - same stats for everyone. Then Bungie could rotate this equipment, so in another match everyone could get a scout rifle instead of the SMG and so on. The important part here is variation though. A new match - a new map and new weapons. And of course, good matchmaking! You should only be put in a match with equals. If you are a team, you should only be put to match with other teams. A single player should only be put together with other single players with the same experience in PVP. Those two togheter would make it more possible that the matches would be equal and exciting. I don't think it will ever happen, though.

  • I've made several comments to others who post about various 'OP' and 'cheese' weapons in PvP as well as a demand for more focus on gunplay about preset loadouts, but no one really responded to the idea, so I don't think it was well received. But, and I may be judging a bit too harshly on this, I suspect that may simply be a matter of "I lost to that weapon, it needs to be nerfed. The ones I like to use are fine as they are." Regardless of what most may argue, I maintain this is at the core of most of the nerf demands. Preset loadouts could potentially minimize if not remove that, and matches would be determined primarily by skill. Of course, I suck at PvP anyway, and it's quite likely I have no idea what I'm talking about, so maybe that's the only reason my suggestion was disregarded.

  • Idk but ever since I posted this, I’ve seen a lot of other people posting on the forums feeling the same way and yt videos about the game. Hopefully that’s enough for bungie to say something to the community
