The number of obvious cheaters is pretty low but I believe a very big number are cheating subtly which is still very much cheating

Prbly about 5% of players use these devices. And honestly prbly the reason why bungie is carful about these things because losing that revenue is detrimental

My thought process is this. If I win the gun fight, they aren't cheating. If I lose the gun fight they MUST be cheating. So, judging by my kd and PvP performances I'd have to say about 78.6% of the time they are cheating.

Honestly I think it's a bigger problem than people think.

Far more than bungie bans, and even more that bungie doesn't want to acknowledge.

While not D2 specific, one website took an anonymous poll. 57% admitting to cheating in fps games. Another anti cheat company placed cheaters in fps at 30%. Many claim battleye has fixed d2 cheating, but it is not the case. Cheats injected into ram in the bios are still very much undetected, and are in fact the most used cheat. EAC is the only one I am aware of that have even once detected an injected cheat. Bungie does most of their pvp bans with manual review, as such closet cheaters are rarely caught, and it takes quite a long time to ban rage cheaters. Google: truckin_4_life to see an example of just how long it takes Bungie to ban a rage cheater. Rage cheating is likely at a low percentage, because it is a for sure ban, it's only a matter of time. Now cheaters that use aimbot FOV so small that all it does if give extra "aim assist", and wallhacking, adding 5 or 10% to ability regen, no recoil etc.... there is no telling how many, but I bet it's more than people think. Well, based on some other Jack/-blam!-’ post, 60% of the gaming population uses cronos zen to cheat. So, consult that clown/expert if you need hard-hitting statistical proofs.

Each season i play a good amount of pvp covering most modes and i still have to see thoose cheaters yall crying about (excluding third party devices bcs bungie is doing something about them in the near future). Id also argue that there is almost no lag switching or ddosing nowadays (most ips have ddos protection). Most issues that seem like that are caused by destinys peer-to-peer infrastructure. Only case i can remember someone legit cheating was a guy with godmode back in d1 on black shield.

I doubt the number of actual hackers will excede 5%. Those who do hack are more than likely repeat offenders who have no problem getting back online once banned though. Cheaters on 3rd party devices are more common but still not an every match thing like some here would have you believe. I most often see players standing dead still and shooting while doing the most in-rhythm, scripted, easy to counter crouch spam ever. Mainly way too many players make accusations from either lack of knowledge or skill. I've seen players accusing others of using 3rd party devices when they've just been using a KB&M. Some players out there cannot tell the difference between input types but want you to believe they can identify hackers from the first 30 seconds of a match and 1 death.

If this were just a regular FPS cheaters are after bragging rights and accolades that come from ranking up. In a looter shooter, the results are more substantial. There is loot illicitly gained by those who didn't "earn" it . That is why think it is seen as such an issue in D2. There is no doubt that many have earned their gear through toil and sweat, but the ones who cheated their way to the gear, are largely reviled by all. No doubt especially by the exceptional players who earned their loot through sheer skill.
