At this point, just give up on Trials

Trials will never work in Destiny. If they make it actually balanced (50/50 or close), going flawless would be almost impossible, if they make it more casual friendly to boost population, every mid/high end PvP player would complain it's "end-game PvP" so it shouldn't accommodate more casual players. It's been almost 10 years since this mode was added to Destiny. Bungie has removed the mode from the game twice, done numerous overhauls/tweaks/labs/tests/changes/rebalances etc... and they still haven't figured it out. They should scrap the mode entirely, it would work in something like Apex or CoD, as those are solely PvP games significantly easier to balance.. but this will never work in Destiny 2. There are just too many weapons, too many abilities, too many cheeses.. and it's not a PvP game just a game that has a PvP mode. It's going to be a forever loop of 'mode good/population high > Bungie makes change > mode bad/population low > Bungie makes change > mode good/population high'... All these resources could be better put towards making an actually comp playlist with real rewards worth chasing, new maps, actual new modes not just variants of capture the zone.

  • Flawless rewards was the dumbest idea ever to see pvp. If you don’t want an actual competition, but instead love smurfing and being the worst ever sportsman, really just an online bully, then you loved this mode. If you have any character whatsoever, you want a challenge. And to play someone of roughly the same skill level, especially if there was a reward involved. Original Trials was trashed for this exact reason. Nobody cared and it was atrocious to play even when you were on the winning side. It’s a worthless idea to fulfill vanity and deserves to be gone.

  • Whenever winning is tied to exclusive rewards problems will allways arise no matter the game. Players blame everything but themselves for losses and poor performance. You can't fix a victims mindset or an out right delusional thought process.

    • Not gonna lie, I used to be someone who wouldn’t even believe to be able to see the lighthouse. Until I got lucky, and then kept playing to see it 60+ times. Now I’ve seen trials in its best of states and worse of states. And I have to tell you, with the most recent changes. I feel like Bungie is taking a step back with the game mode. I’m not sure if they’ll ever find that sweet spot for competitive game modes for Destiny. But all I have to say is, if they get somewhere close, even by an inch. Then they need to leave it alone finally. Because it’s like if they add or change one thing to make a game mode slightly better than what it already is. In a sense, they just make it worse.

I play for fun, but lots of players feel it's a waste of time if they aren't being rewarded with loot For low-skill players: 1) Adepts for winning 7 games, regardless of losses 2) Practice Pool active - might need to look closely at this 3) Wins when card is at 7 wins have a chance to drop Adept weapon and increased rep gains For high-skill players: 1) Flawless grants additional perks on weapons, end-game materials, and a chance to reward Exotic Engram or Artifice Armor 2) Flawless rewards exclusive aesthetic items such as sparrows, shaders, emblems and Titles 3) Wins on Flawless card have chance of dropping Flawless rewards and grant increase rep

      • I’m an average player; like playing trials; have been lucky to go flawless a few times but damn this weekend’s matchmaking is tough. Normally can go in a streak of a few wins but didn’t get past 2 wins this weekend without the next few matches getting pulverised. Most definitely a lot harder in there with the new matchmaking.

      • Trials is completely unbalanced and shouldn't exist to be honest, but there's always going to be people saying "get better" and "its a you problem" when I know people whose in top 1% whose struggling bad too with the matchmaking and hate it too. Trials is worst experience I've ever had on Destiny. Before this change they did to it, it was actually not a bad mode. But now its near impossible to secure a win. Im not expecting to go flawless easily but I shouldn't be going up against a stacked team thats been flawless several times whose in the top 0.1%. They're never going to fix it.

If they purge the aim bot players, controller mods and cheats, things might even out. If that is not possible, then 7 wins gets you to the Lighthouse and an Adept weapon r you can spend engrams to choose a weapon with random perks (which is an achievement in and of itself with the current player base in Trials). 7 Flawless wins allows you to choose any adept weapon or gear in the Lighthouse for the season at no extra cost (Random Perks) "OR" you get to choose 2 perks for the weapon offered that week. Then you'll get more players participating in the PVP Grind aka Trials of Osiris.... It also rewards the sweats who go flawless by allowing them a choice for their efforts. A preferred weapon at no extra cost or the weekly weapon with two perks they want.

            • I've said it since the beginning. Theres WAY WAY WAY too many variables in a game like this to justify the goal being a high win streak. It's literally made to exclusively reward the top 1 % of the playerbase. Everyone else either cheats their way to a 7 win streak or used to win trade or needs to pay for carries or recovs. It's a flawed and failed system when 99 % of the playerbase can not get the desired loot due to way too unrealistic goals. Doesn't help that the game has error codes, general server instabilities, unbalanced clown fiesta ability spam meta, quitters and cheaters everywhere and a general tiny pvp playerbase. Everything screams "wtf are you doing". Bungie hears: "i mean easy content thats been there for 10 years, why put any sort of meaningful effort in".

            • After Trials of the Nine failed, re-adding Trials of Osiris in Season 10 was one of the worst mistakes made in this game. The community begged for it to happen, but it has had an almost entirely negative reception and exposed several flaws along the way. The game would be better off without it, and also without the people who play it for a living.

              • If they remove trials from the game, there goes a vast majority of the PvP main population. Go look me up on timewastedondestiny.com 51% of my total playtime in this game is in crucible. Out of that 51%, I’m willing to bet that 80% is in trials, 15% is in comp and 5% is in quick play. Quickplay is fun to play every so often but overall it’s boring. This is a mode I play with my pve main friends. Comp is fun when it’s survival matches, but there’s no incentive to play. I hit ascendant 1 in like one day. This is a mode I hop in to try to get a better rolled rose, and to play with my PvP main friends when trials isn’t around. Trials is fun, usually, when the meta isn’t horrible (like it is right now). With that said, elimination is a staple game mode in FPS games and there’s something about it that makes it more replayable than comp. Taking trials out completely just because Bungie can’t get their priorities straight is a lame idea. It’s time bungie grows a set and tells the casuals that if they aren’t good enough to do something, practice to get better. Their insistence on catering to casuals in a game mode where you have to win 7 matches in a row is why this playlist keeps getting revamped over and over and over every single season. Casuals on this game feel entitled to every single piece of loot without having to improve to acquire said loot. It’s insanity. You don’t see PvP mains complaining that they couldn’t get, say, a flawless raid shader that they really want.

                • Meanwhile I've been slowly increasing my Flawless numbers and getting some good weapons and armor along the way, AND some ships, ghosts, and sparrows... So yeah, how about NO. Stop playing if you don't enjoy it. But quit acting like your experience means the entire game mode should be scrapped.

                  • The thing is Trials needs casual players to survive (and they need to be in the same pool as everyone else) otherwise the hardcore playerbase will just lionise itself like it did back in the early seasons of Trials' return. Lower skill players can't go flawless, aren't having fun, and aren't being appropriately rewarded for their time, so they leave. The new skill floor is now average players, who due to the same reasons end up leaving too, then the above average players, etcetera. The end result is a barren gamemode where only the sweatiest of the sweaty stacked teams are still left playing, and they almost certainly aren't enjoying themselves either. This is why Bungie have been making so many changes to Trials to make it easier to earn rewards, but it's a bandaid fix. Bungie are just dumping a ton of loot on players in order to get them to a point where they can tolerate slogging through a gamemode they hate and that is not a healthy way to maintain a player population.

                    • D1 Trials was a hit. D2 Trials of the Nine was a Failure. D2 Trials was a Hit, but then failed. I agree, just abandon the mode at this point. They did it with Gambit and are doing it with Generic pvp.

                      • They simply need to make it more accessible to all players, like they did in the past. Several months ago, memory here, maybe longer they had record high turn out and it was the best experience. It made me want to play. Also the loot has really sucked for a long time. I think they cater tooooo muccchhhh to streamers…

                          • It always felt bizarre, for me, the idea of 7 flawless. How many other fps games requires that? Also, in a wrong way, we can think of needing 7 flawless GM runs to get one adept and cosmetics. I know we can't compare pvp and pve, but it gives the dimension of how dumb the concept of flawless is. But anyways, the sweats, the cheaters and the streamers are happy. There are a lot of people making money with this bullsh!t. I think this won't change in the near future.

It’s a cannibalistic game mode by its design. You have to feed in poor players like me to make it work by giving enough loot / stuff to make it worthwhile to only win occasionally. If you don’t do this the mode is dead. By that nature the player base will shrink drastically once those people have the loot they think they can realistically get. I’ll play once a season for the 7 win bright dust and I played a little more this season to try and get a good immortal role from engrams. (Didn’t get one) Once people like me leave then the tier above me end up with the same low win percentage until they leave and so on and so on. It’s like pitting an NBA team against an U10 basketball team some times and telling the U10s to have fun and get good while they they get balls dunked on their head and disrespected by the opposition. Once the U10s leave the U12s and U14s who were beating up on the U10s when they didn’t draw the NBA players nick off as well until you just get left with the best. Kudos to those at the NBA level. But much harder to win 7 in a row when every match is a 50:50. Actually a 1 in 128 chance for a fully flawless card without a mercy. This means those going flawless are having plenty of matches against inferior opposition.

                                  • I enjoy it 🤷‍♂️ wasn't really a fan of trials labs this weekend though. Unsure if it's the map (never been one of my favorites), how there was only 1 zone (was kind of stale), or the changes in the labs, or all 3. That said the loot in trials is also pretty mid aside from 1 or two things out of an entire loot pool. A glaive next season isn't it.
