Since Season of the Seraph started I've been receiving a lot of long pauses whenever I do something in my inventory or claim triumphs. It's not every time, but sometimes when I swap an armor or weapon mod, or even trade out a weapon in a given slot, there will be a 2-5 second pause. The request will eventually go through, and is occasionally marked with a "Contacting Destiny 2 servers" banner, but not always. This occasionally happens with triumphs/challenges, but 90% of the time it's altering my inventory somehow. Granted that might just be because that's the network activity I deal with the most besides combat. I can make a video of example clips, but I would need time to gather a few of them and stitch them together. We primarily play on Steam. We used to get the "Contacting Destiny 2 servers" here and there over the past few seasons but it wouldn't actually affect us in a noticeable way. Now it's a frequent irritant. I was hoping disabling the API this weekend would help and that you had already found this issue, but I still got it a few times today.
