Small drones that you shoot while you have the scanner buff are for the secret chest.

There are 50 drones in total. Shooting all 50 opens a door in the new exotic mission. If you look at this seasons triumphs under “secrets”, you can see where you will find drones Ie planets/exotic mission. Doing this will unlock the new exotic sparrow Some are locked behind this seasons vendor. 3 to be exact. Ie security pass and a protection that will most likely get you past the lasers as well but you can cheese those lasers with a eager edge sword.

I think they're for a secret chest at the end of the mission.
