You actually moved up a sub rank!
The sub ranks count backwards as you climb up. Gold III is the lowest sub rank in Gold. You climbed up to Gold II. You need to max out Gold I to play the promotion matches to get into Platinum III.

As far as I know, you can’t gain points for losing. Where are you getting the 2.3 number from - third party website? Bungie isn’t displaying sub ranks like that. The higher the number, the lower you are in the sub ranks. 2.3 is a higher number than 2, so that suggests she is actually Silver III.
