I'm adding to some things I have said in the past.
Ok, so I'm a bit of a weird case. I'm amblyopic (https://www.nei.nih.gov/learn-about-eye-health/eye-conditions-and-diseases/amblyopia-lazy-eye), and I'm also near-sighted on the "eye that actually works".
I get around playing games by using large screen TV's as a monitor, and having it only 1-2 feet from my face, ie on my computer desk.
There is place in Destiny 2 I can't really go. Places like The Shattered Throne (all super dark and black/white only) and I had a lot of trouble getting Patterns in the Derelict Leviathan because of the non-stop dark-light/fire aoe enemies/flashing spawn effects/etc that constantly happen in that area.
I understand that games need to have a variety of GFX effects for "immersion" and to make it look interesting, but I'd like to suggest a few points that I don't think (?) would cause anything game breaking but would help a lot for people with not-so-perfect-eyesight, at least in PvE.
* The "Thermal Imaging" scopes that "highlight" the border on enemies: I only use those because I find it very hard otherwise to target enemies in all the color. Is there a reason why we can't have that as a Scope Perk that is select-able OR a weapon Mod that also gives something extra.
* Option in settings to remove or tone down some of the weird things that D2 does for "immersion" while in open world that currently make no sense to me, such as:
- Blur my entire screen for 5-10 seconds when there is an event happening nearby
- Darken my screen for 5-10 seconds when there is an event nearby
- Make my entire screen bright white when hit by that weird mini-boss gun
- ... anything else that just take "my entire view of the game" and "basically make me EXTRA blind for 5+ seconds"
Another small example to point out how vision impacts the game: I pre-ordered Lightfall, which means I own a QuickSilver Storm. I wasnt INITIALLY planning of pre-getting it, but did so when I found that the QS had a Thermal Scope, but was really annoyed when discovering that when ADS's that the scope reticle area is not "clear" but has a "transparent color graphic" pattern. That pattern is also GREEN, and green is the worse color - "Greens are perceived more readily than any other color because of the combined color perception of rods and cones". That PATTERN in the scope should have MUCH higher transparency. It should BARELY be visible. It should be "decoration that you notice if look carefully", it should not be so visible that even with bad eyesight like mine, it makes your eyes randomly focus on the pattern while firing. I mention this particular example because I remember other weapons that I scrapped in the pas that had scopes graphic that "got in in the way" of the target.
Another weird example: The "radar" in the top-left corner. It's almost useless for someone like me. It requires me to fully shift focus from the center of my screen in order to re-focus to a totally different zone on my screen in order to determine what is there, then re-focus on screen center and re-find targets - if you can't see well you know exactly what I mean - and its MASSIVELY headache inducing to do constantly, and causes eye strain because you are constantly muscle-flicking your eyes to one side, which is also aggravated by the fact that it fades in and out during ADS. Can someone please tell me WHY it has to even fade out in PVE?
Look. I'm sorry this sounds like a rant, but I really do enjoy playing this game, but I'm spending more and more time taking breaks because my eyes just go bloodshot from all the extra work they have to do just in order to "see" the game.
NOTE: I just hit another storm on Europa and cant see a thing now :)
-----------------------------------------
TL;DR : To whomever is working on the look/graphics of the game, when you MAKE a new "visual thing" can you keep in mind that there is people out there that have bad eyesight, so if your "thing" makes it HARDER for perfect eyesight people to see things, you are making it 10 times worse for the ones that already see poorly.
PS: When you see me typing words in "caps" thats my visual equivalent of like, Italics. I can see where I placed Caps Words but no so much if I had tried to use Italics code

3 通の返信All good points. A vision impaired friend of mine really struggled to get anywhere in some of the Witch Queen content, and I had to throw solar grenades so he knew where to jump, guided him through as much as I could, but wow, it was a slog for him and it really sucked. Eventually I think he just stopped playing. When I first started playing I really found all the visual effects a huge sensory overload and it really wasn't enjoyable. So I hope some of these points are taken to heart.

2 通の返信I have a monitor that has a built in crosshair option, and it basically draws a persistent crosshair on your screen until you turn it off (made by HP Omen). Sucks in cutscenes and the like, but it helps a ton in games where the developers can't be bothered to add a few accessibility options for us colorblind or otherwise visually impaired players. I've also heard of people using clear tape, markers, and a measuring tape to "manually" achieve the same effect. If that would help you at all. Good luck on your gaming hobby, and I hope Bungie pays attention to your post!

6 通の返信rZI3により編集済み: 12/5/2022 8:18:48 AMI get your points, but surely sitting that close when you already have eye problems isnt helping, I have two good eyes but there limits to how long you can stare at a screen and how close for a period of time 😅

2 通の返信I don't know if all of them have it but the new pulse rifle from the seasonal activity outlines enemies.

2 通の返信About the thermal imaging, have you got Wishender? It’s got the wall hack that highlights enemies for you. If you don’t I can give you a hand getting it if you have Forsaken, it takes about a hour.

1 返信I can't use the radar either. Totally useless. I've switched through every variation for colorblindness, nothing works.

DSpiteにより編集済み: 12/6/2022 10:36:58 PMSince I'm playing atm, I might make a list of points/ideas I some across here worth mentioning as I encounter them: * Ability to reposition the Radar. I could probably jam it right where the my weapon reticle is and play far more effectively. * Was just doing a Europa activity at a Vex Pillar, and at finishing, the ENTIRE screen flashed solid bright white, twice a few seconds apart * was inside a building on the Moon and one of those "defend the satellite events" happened 100+ meters off and my screen went full white like it does when you are actually outside and closer. Like, tad excessive (its just code to make it do that when within x meters) so maybe LOWER that? * The new Warmind area (Season 19) is all Red colors, dark-ish in nature and I can feel my eyes straining to see in all the weapon and special effects that happen in combat. I put down my Thermal weapons to use the now Exotic SMG (no thermal scope) and I am struggling to fight in there. Accidentally stepping in a Slow Mine (the ones that just made your entire screen BRIGHT WHITE) is hell on earth if you accidentally trip one.

I agree completely. My vision is sub average and I struggle with certain aspects. The sherterrd throne and anyplace like that are absolute nightmares for playing in. I feel like they lean way to heavily in the dark vs light theme. There should be a lot more "in between" both thematically as well as visually. HDR settings dont help the game while playing. I hate shooting at a remotely downward angle in an empowering rift. And I dont understand why they have color options for our aiming reticle but it ALWAYS stays red when scoped in. There is soooooo much red in the game it gets hard to tell where that reticle is a lot.

14 通の返信Not just for those with bad eyesight - but those of us that are "Colorblind" as well. The same places you named are issues for me, during the VoG Raid I was a part of (Finally Completed it for the 1st time), they had to wait on me and guide me through the dark areas. I do my best with what settings I can adjust, but they dont really help much. Hopefully soon, I can figure out some settings that work for me and may help others. My colorblindness is a lil worse than what the settings can adjust or help with. Its a big issue when trying to PvP in any FPS type gameplay.

1 返信Hey, I know you have a ton of valid points and I agree with you. I just wanted to suggest for areas like the Leviathan you were talking about that sometimes you can lower your graphic settings if you were on PC and it may alleviate some of these issues for you.
