Its a damage-over-time weapon. So there are two ways to reduce its damage. 1. Reduce that damage rate (tick, DPS) while leaving its duration/time the same. 2. Leave the damage rate the same, but reduce the duration/time. Total damage = damage rate x time. Bungie reduced its total damage by reducing the time it does damage.

No. The tick is a function of time. It does a certain amount of damage per unit time. You can change the total damage by either changing the damage rate (tick) or by changing the amount of time it ticks for. The grenade does 250 points of damage per second and it ticks for 7 seconds——> you get 1750 in total damage. Leave the tick the same but reduce the time to five seconds? Now you have 250 per second over 5 seconds? That’s 1250 in total damage. You’ve nerfed 500 in damage from the overall damage done by reducing the duration by 2 seconds.

Just direct impact the higher health targets. You’ve got auto loading, 100 handling and a lot of reserves. Damn you gotta be more careful with how you place your shots instead of spamming them however/wherever you like? It’ll still be good, and still be a go to option. No change to duration/damage for that part. It’s still 10 seconds.

“We aren’t making changes to direct hits, and we’re leaving the damage and ammo capacity alone” you just need to keep weaving it more often than you used to. For all we know, in practice, this is a single target damage buff, but an add clear and map ownership nerf.

I think technically speaking, people don’t take 7 seconds weapon swapping so if the total damage per shot stays the same, then the potential supplemental DPS by applying witherhoard and swapping to another weapon can be higher.
