Missed opportunities for years have exhausted me

Im not sure who feels similar, but I have loved (and defended) Destiny for a long time. Years even. I want to see the story through, but each season that passes my "burnout" hits sooner and sooner. I have more specific interests over time, but here are some things that helped curb my enthusiasm (in no particular order) : 1. Lack of clan support. There was so much interest for years, and other than engrams and some triumphs, there has been no need for clans. No social space, or extra customization (don't even say the banner) to make it worthwhile. Nothing cool or unique. 2. Vaulting Raids. Raids are one of the most unique attractions/activities in Destiny, and are just downright fun to coordinate. Whether its speedy runs, low-mans, teaching or just vibing out with your friends... raids offer some of the best experiences in the game. Unvault them. 3. Between strikes and crucible maps being drip fed for years, especially crucible (and im not into Destiny pvp) its criminal how neglected these areas are. 4. The seasonal model was okay initially, but the well has run dry. Between artificial difficulty choices like champions/mods, and the drip-fed story that we crush on 20 mins every Tuesday reset, there just doesn't seem to be a good happy medium between this and a couple large yearly dlc drops. I've been taking a break for a couple weeks now, and find my interest in Lightfall dropping further, but I will play and I love my clan/friends I've made in Destiny. I really hope there is a plan to turn the corner and bring things back to prominence. Just some thoughts.

  • Agree wholeheartedly. I'm sorry you feel this way about Destiny now. I'm a day one Destiny player, and have recently cancelled our preorder for Lightfall. I no longer feel like my time and investment in the game is respected or worth it.

    • You forgot the pinnacle system. It's mindboggling how they let this go on, for years, it's so bad. 3 weeks of pinnacles on 3 characters, that's like 60+ drops, EVERY drop a weapon at 1578, all my armour is 1575 and I get nothing, for days upon days of running things I despise like gambit, trials, master ketchcrash, vox obscura, preservation It's compounded by the loot pools, every pool in the game feels awful. Hey go run iron banner all week, and get Out of Bounds SMG as a reward after EVERY game, the design is sooooooo bad, it's beyond frustrating There's nothing quite like feeling you're completely wasting your time

      • I have found myself playing other games a lot more. I play destiny when my friends ask, but I haven’t actively played it on my own in quite some time. I will continue to say that breaks are healthy from the grindy style games, but I’ve been taking more and more breaks recently…

      • When even year 1 DLC looks absolutely awesome compared to this stale, boring seasonal model, theres an issue. I personally am so over every single game throwing this "keep players busy" battle pass model at their players. Who cares at this point. It's not good content, nor is it healthy for the player population. Bungie wanted to limit content droughts. Instead they produce player burnout left and right. And most of those players aren't looking back. Content droughts are healthy because players get the chance to play other stuff and look forward to FUN and QUALITY releases of the game. This "keep player busy with the game at all time" model is just removing that. A new season isn't exciting, it's a draining reset button for progression and a restart for the chores. Nothing more to it.

        • Yeah, basically. This game has the potential to be the looter shooter that the entire market holds up as the standard to meet. Instead, it's just squandered with the trickle of content model. The seasons this year just haven't been engaging at all. I tuned out halfway through last season and skipped the first month of this season and still can't be bothered to complete the quest step that requires something like five runs of the six man activity. The banality is overwhelming and has been for two years. Last season was literally a reskin of "nightmares" which were already a reskin of previous enemies. The entire nightmare presentation makes me feel like I'm back on an original PlayStation squinting to try to even make out what I'm looking at through the cheesy distortion. That last dungeon was the most headache-inducing cluster of audio and visual distortion I've ever dealt with. It's miserable outside and has been the last few days and instead of playing Destiny (which I have done every time I have been locked inside since 2014) I'm rewatching The Mentalist for the fifth or sixth time.

            • When everyone that made the base game leave and you are left with woke devs ,this is what we get after 8 years ,I feel you bro ,and I feel every comment in this section But I am done with this company and what they will ever make ,I think it's time to move on sincerely all of us Remember this : if you are in the stage of making and writing posts like this explaining and semi/defending for your inner peace and finding pro/cons then its time to put to the ground this game It was so much fun in first 3 seasons ,now its a boring -blam!- copy/paste ..8 years bro ...8 years ..from my point of view and what anger I feel now for the devs and the company ,I hope they will not make anything noticeable or anything as long as that trash -blam!- company lives along with the woke devs or wtf they are anymore Time for new games ,new studios ,new theme ,new universe ....Darktide looks promising ..Bye Traveler and Hello Emperor But bro trust me its time to put this -blam!- game to ground and move on ,it will feel much better

Clan system definitely needs more rewards besides just a few measly engrams. Need some pinnacle rewards tied to playing with your clan, and cosmetic stuff like shaders and emblems. Clan XP level needs an overhaul and I think using a system like they did for this current community event might be an alright idea; basically just having you play with clanmates for currencies you can donate to the clan that unlocks rewards on a personal track and eventually unlocking clan wide goals that grant bonuses. Like more xp while with clanmates, more glimmer etc. Hell, bring back the renown system from FR and use that in patrol as a way to make basic lost sectors hard again and reward players with larger amounts of currency to donate based on their renown on the scale of 1 to 5. Seasonal model is still fine, they just need to adjust it and stop trying to get people to log in each week for a crumb of story which doesn't usually move the story foward in anyway except at the beginning and end of the season. People will still log in to do their weeklies and seasonal challenges, don't really need to force them into the seasonal activity for a few sentences of dialogue.

                • Game was proposed to have a 10 year lifespan. Game is now on its 8th year. They have 2 more years to drag this broken and empty design so that they can probably say to the dwindling player population that they finally did it as promised. Yeah, it will probably drag for another 2 years just so that they could say they did it. Little does this dwindling playerbase know that even after getting into its 10th year, the game will still remain a failure!🤣 Heck, even Activision, the main investor and publisher for this franchise left and dumped this broken and empty game for dead sinking in shallow waters because they too knew it’s a failure.🤣 This broken and empty game will probably drag this empty design for another couple more years. It will probably not get better. Still a broken and empty game. A Failure!🤣

                  • Mark my words, bungie will unvault scourge of the past raid one day in between light fall and the expansion after, and when they bring it back they’ll make all the raid’s weapons craftable. That’ll lure everyone into playing over that season. It’s exactly what they’re doing this upcoming season - baiting everyone into playing the game more by making deepstone weapons craftable. Bungie’s entire formula for a while now has been -> release expansion to occupy people with story -> after expansion has been thoroughly completed by the majority of the playerbase, release old content to bait players into playing more - > repeat last step 2 or 3 times -> release new expansion with new story

                        • Same. I've taken a break from the game to focus on other games I neglected and only come back to the Forums to see if the game has improved. I get the feeling that this will go away when Lightfall drops, and a few weeks or even a couple of months in, we're going to be seeing similar complaints rise up again. I, for the most part, am close to giving up on the game since it feels like is becoming a cash grab at this point and a show like those that you see on Netflix/Hulu/Amazon.

                        • Looking back to D1 reset day: a regular bunch of us - not all the same bods every week, would get a heads-up to see if any interest to loot the gorgon chests…then spread the love (cp) around and about…then RESET hour… Next step: get the flaming blue hairdo…then hit the raid! We did this week in, and week out; once done, it was IB time or just regular crucible. …and on into the weekend where the late arrivals gang would join the fray, and we’d all do more raids…usually helping a bud’s other buddy to get stuff done. That’s how we rolled back then, and we weren’t doing anything many other regular crews were also doing. Until - the big lie…sunsetting. 👈🤬 I left and became a whale Tenno (MR24) for some time…until a powerful wave of nostalgia returned me to these shores, after watching some vids myself and my (then young) son made…I was / am his wingman! 🫡 Now, in D2, I pootle about, doing vanilla stuff - on both of our accounts. I’ll chase something down if it appeals, but not chase stupid stuff, eg, another buddy who nearly became unhinged in his nonstop hunt for EoT; I joined him for a few final c/p runs…but soon gave that a miss because it was getting beyond ludicrous!?! He spent a few more weeks on the hunt, got it, then disappeared from the game. 🧐 I did enjoy doing those solo pirate missions…me against a veritable small army! I didn’t enjoy fighting team8s on the Ketch- and Expedition Missions - for who could steal the most explody things or loot engrams or the Captains’ weapon to activate the nodes…nor the ‘crew mate’ thing…nor the Ruffian debacle - even though I was nearly done on both accounts before BHQ auto-updated it…what scallywags they be! 🫤 And now, after the latest bit of shenanigans, the pathetic upgrades to the Eliksni Quarters for all that grind…even though the sharper set amongst us figured out a doable shortcut and ended the event fast af…😂 I wonder, if that might have been BHQs / Destiny’s - ‘Ratner Moment’? Google it! I also wonder what Sony HQ are getting out of it, after spending all those 🤮🤮🤮…they must know something we don’t…or…did they just throw money at the (potential big-) screen??? 🍋🍋🍋 I’m happy to see out the 10th and final episode…but I shan’t be holding my breath, either. The only truly epic thing I will hold as a keepsake is how very, very close Destiny was to becoming one of the truly G. O.A.T. titles…but was mismanaged to mediocrity and ruin, by the nonstop nonsense and shenanigans by BHQ - and that’s the truth writ large! TLDR: 🤫 Just my 2d worth. 🫡 Cheers!

                          • Ya know, my son was born right after the release of D1. He was on my lap/shoulder napping for Vault of Glass, Crota's End and King's Fall. He sat glossy eyed watching the particle effects in Wrath of the Machine. As he's grown, he hasn't taken much interest in gaming (outside of Roblox and Fallguys) but he's still young. Some of my long running friends/clanmates know him, know his voice, and constantly ask when my little GOAT is gonna join the clan and eventually lead it (Prob Year 4 of Destiny 3). Destiny offered so many things that other games didn't, and has had the opportunities time and time again (many failed "destiny killers") to really cement that Hall of Fame status, but it just falls short. The eververse, lack of clan support and a stale content model, I'm afraid I'll never have the joy of bringing my son up to pride rock and tell him that he will rule over everything the light touches. Guess he's just going to grief people in Fallguys and keep collecting crowns. My heart breaks.

                          • My guess is that any major changes (if there are to be any) will come after The Final Shape. This game is what it is. There will be some tweaks and adjustments and there will be some new content. We know roughly what to expect going forward. It’s no surprise to me that a 5 year old game has lost some of its spark. I find that it’s always best to play for enjoyment and take a break when you get bored or frustrated.

                          • That has been the story of this game since the very beginning. The potential it has and the screw ups that have happened for years. If a true "Destiny killer" came along they would be toast. Even more sad is that has not happened and many have walked away for various reasons anyway.

                          • I can pinpoint where my clan/community started dropping off of Destiny, or pulling back pretty hard, and it was around Beyond Light when the raids got vaulted. Clans and communities have been neglected, and to be honest, never really got more than a nod from the get-go. I understand there are many challenges as games get bigger, and old content stacks, but I used to run raids regularly, smashing stuff out with friends, running a raiding clan, and overall just having a blast helping new players through, but it was such a punch in the gut when the DCV became a thing. I have loved Destiny as a whole since I was handed a beta code by my step-son many years ago. I had my own son, baby on my shoulder, for the original Vault of Glass. I have met amazing people, dealt with countless dramas, shaped younger minds, made mistakes running communities.... all because of this game and community. When I have become mentally exhausted to the point of not being excited about a major expansion... then that should speak volumes of the game is being received nowadays. I will continue to run my clan, and raid, and hang on to some of what I loved, but I'm not even certain I'll be here till the end of the saga. Who knows.
