Trials changes, to make the playlist better for everyone.
First off, these changes are suggested to do as the title claims, they won't be painless, they will drastically change trials. But none of them are necessarily mutually exclusive to one another, nor exclusive to one another.
The first change would be the loot incentive. One of the issues with Trials isn't the lack of loot, its the rotation of loot. Rather than changing the loot on a weekly basis, make the chest give random loot from the entire loot pool, while allowing the player to focus from all of the loot Sain-14 has to offer. Simple change that will likely boost numbers constantly by allowing players to continue to grind for that perfect roll.
The second change was suggested by CammyCakes, iirc, changing the card dynamic form what the current 7 win no loss is, to a simpler 10 win card system. This is the most drastic change as it would essentially change what "flawless" is and how its achieved. But I personally believe its a good direction, as it acknowledges the fact, and the many lines of dialogue from Saint-14 themselves, that you are supposed to get back up after defeat and keep trying.
This is especially true, considering, that the current system more then incentivizes players to find ways around playing fairly. Either by cheating outright, or having someone essentially play the game for them. Which disrupts the overall structure of the card based matchmaking. Which is why part of this change would be getting rid of the flawless pool, as it would essentially no longer be needed. And would also allow for the changing of objectives and benefits of different cards potentially.
The third change is a bit less drastic but in the vein of reward structure in general, I would say that whenever someone resets their rank with saint, they would get a trip to the lighthouse, with different dialogue options reflecting how dedicated a player has been by continuing to engage in the playlist regardless of winning or losing.
And finally, the last and perhaps most drastic change would be to the availability of the playlist itself. Keep up the playlist 100% of the time, as well as the freelance option, and remove the elimination playlist entirely. This would drastically shake up the population, but it would allow for those who want the Trials experience to continue to pursue the playlist goals they are after more persistently.
As part of that suggestion I would also leave the playlist active during Iron Banner, potentially, though I can understand only having one up and not the other. The more important aspect of this change is allowing those who do nothing but play the 3v3 game mode to continue to enjoy it with the maximum reward structure. As even though freelance splits the player base, having essentially two of the same game mode does that even more so, and elimination is just Trials without the rewards, so why even bother?
