It just needs more ammo and a little more damage.
The only reason the DPS meta is the way that it is is because linears have just power crept the game.
Complete misrepresentation. Linears were buffed multiple times and we were actually given strong options. Linears were never even used until Line in the Sand came out because it was the first Linear with actually decent perks for DPS (also it was like what, the third legendary linear in the game or something?)—while not extremely popular in average circles, it saw use before all of the buffs and without Veist Stinger, FTTC, Bait and Switch, etc. Move to today after multiple buffs, multiple new Linears, ubiquity of Divinity, and access to Veist Stinger and Triple Tap/FTTC, of course they were going to be dominant—they were usable before all of these things, there just weren’t any standout Linears to show people that.
This also doesn’t account for the greatly increased strength of exotic specials and primaries, along with many other factors, which got us to move away from exotic heavies.
Sure, nerfs were a part of it, but to just say we only use Linears because they nerfed everything else is completely disconnected from reality.
They’re only so good because their damage has been buffed several times and things like triple tap and fourth times have a 100% uptime with divinity going.
