We should all be pushing for Crucible options that cater to a range of preferences and play styles. It’s in everyone’s interests to do this, in order to keep the Crucible population as high as possible.
I know CBMM vs SBMM is a hot topic right now, but there are plenty of other things to consider as well (game modes, rotators, fireteams/solo, casual/sweaty, ranked etc).
Here are my suggestions for the regular Crucible playlists, using CBMM, SBMM and ranked matchmaking:
- 6v6 SBMM (Control)
- 3v3 Ranked (Survival)
- Freelance Ranked (Rumble)
- Standard Weekly Rotation CBMM (Clash, Supremacy and other regular game modes)
- Wild Weekly Rotation CBMM (Mayhem, Rift, Scorched and other unusual game modes)
Control is SBMM to allow New Lights and low skill players some breathing space. I removed Elimination (my favourite mode weirdly enough) as it didn’t make sense to keep it in. It will still appear in Trials and splitting competitive 3v3 makes Survival ranked matchmaking more difficult. Freelance Survival is removed and Rumble (the game mode designed for solo players) is given more purpose with ranked matchmaking. The standard weekly rotator is for more experienced and confident players. The wild weekly rotator is a playlist to mix things up in.
If you disagree with my suggestions, let me know your alternative ideas.
EDIT: changes to Control & Standard Weekly Rotation as discussed below.
EDIT: reworded to steer the conversation back to improving the Crucible playlists in a variety of ways (not just CBMM vs SBMM).

3 通の返信Did you hear that story about a guy in Diablo Immortal who is so overpowered in pvp, that they can't match him with anyone else? That guy should have played Destiny 2. He'd be matched against lvl1 0.0kd guardian in no time.

8 通の返信Bungie should fire every single person working on literally anything pvp related and then hire infant monkeys with downs instead and pvp will at least be better. But for real, right now with SBMM in Elimination and Survivial (the only things I play) I get matched with and against players from Asia, which btw is over 7000 km away from where I am at best (I'm in EUNE).

1 返信Numbers are very low, changes won't bring many people back. Not enough people to populate extra playlists

4 通の返信I don’t understand why ppl post about good players not wanting to play other good players. At no point have seen a good player say they wouldn’t only bad players crying and being delusional like loose sbmm will be there lord and savior in season 18. But also failed to pay attention control will have loose sbmm and cbmm active, meaning you’ll still play against better players and even if it could match you with someone of the same skill level if the cbmm isn’t the same it wont happen.

2 通の返信Eazy-Eにより編集済み: 8/3/2022 10:59:27 PMSounds good but it’s already final, sbmm will be returning. I know everyone isn’t thrilled, primarily because of the cliché argument, “connection will tank” or “I have to sweat “ all the time, those are the signature arguments that followers of content creators spew. Doesn’t matter to me, every other game has it , and every other shooter is more popular.

Bungie has tried this on a number of occasions. The problem is that---each time they do it---the player base comes down SQUARELY on the side of SBMM. Because it gives the most enjoyable experience to the most number of players....and leads to better player retention. That is what the data---INDUSTRYWIDE---consistently shows. Its why SBMM is becoming the industry standard. So what happens---in this game----is that the only players who show up to the CBMM playlists are either those who have connection /matchmaking issues....or those better players who are looking to dominate weaker ones. But because those playlists wind up having small numbers...which are heavily skewed towards the top of the skill curve.....none of these players get the experience they're looking for. Bottomline is that the game can't serve two masters. Bungie needs to decide who it is they are making this game for...and then commit to that vision., and be willing to lose those players who can't abide by it. Just like they did on the PVE side of the game.

4 通の返信You have a solid idea but the main problem still exists .. Bungie and the sweats tried to sell the wider Destiny community the big lie on CBMM being the better option because the connections would be better but as we all have come to see the connections today are still atrocious.. They only wanted CBMM implemented to remove SBMM originally just so sweats and streamers could use crucible as a stomping ground against weaker players.. Dedicated servers or better connections to Bungie is required but so is SBMM to stop sweats stat padding or purposely stomping and artificially inflating their KD ..

7 通の返信
Control is SBMM to allow New Lights and low skill players some breathing space. I
Yep, The argument goes: "You get better by playing against people that are better than you" And while I do agree, there needs to be a way to get the feel of the game before you can learn anything. For example: You take a karate lesson because you want to learn karate. Your first lesson shouldn't be against Bruce Lee attacking you full force, holding nothing back, stomping you into the ground, right? What can you learn from that? That's why there's different colored belts, right?

2 通の返信A_moにより編集済み: 8/3/2022 2:41:04 PMThat does look like a good set up for PvP overall. I agree that having elimination and trials at this point is kind of redundant. Its not necessarily a must but I did think freelance survival was pretty successful in terms of what it was meant to do. That may or may not still be the case depending on who wants to play the mode in the near to long term future. That is a mode where a lot of the people that play it regularly probably play in both pools though. That's not necessarily the case with trials. A lot of trials players across skill levels that fall into the "play as intended" group seem to not really care for freelance or straight up skip freelance weeks. I don't play a lot of rumble but rumble in this game is the best version of that kind of mode that Bungie has ever done somehow imho. I think how that mode works could actually benefit in a positive way from input by people that play it a lot, which doesn't always appear to be the case in some of the other modes even though it may be. Currently its a mode with pretty high gameplay quality standards and it would be cool if it kept that feature. One thing I really like is splitting the rotators between "fun" and "regular"). I definitely think that is a really good idea and it would make room for things like rift and zone control and showdown or whatever else that could maybe appear for a season at a time if there's too many alongside standard modes like clash. It could be the same thing with the "fun" playlist where more experimental things could be added over time and there would be more room too because the rotator would be split in two now. Other than that I can't help but to say the concept of solo players playing in team modes is just not a bad thing. Especially when it comes to CBMM that attempts to match players based on their skill potential and then stops after the matches start. There's a lot of reasons for that but this is getting long so I'll leave it at that.

3 通の返信Issue is rank exist and nobody play it They want to farm KD against weak player ....not play against other good player and face to lose

1 返信I am fine to try anything really. My only stance is that is the same loot is on the line then higher skill players shouldn’t be punished for improving at the game. Improving should make the loot grind easier. If the rewards are better for higher skills then I think it’s ok.

4 通の返信Demon_XXVIIにより編集済み: 8/3/2022 4:44:11 PMNo Elimination? No chance of an upvote Elimination (alongside Survival) is the purest PvP in the game

4 通の返信No way that SBMM is good for a quickplay environment. CBMM is the best option since it’s not a tournament and you shouldn’t be sweating all the time for no reward. Let RNG take the wheel and match different players with different skills. If the problem is New Lights not winning, then is a whinny tiny heart person issue. Someone that wants a participation trophy without putting effort.
-
10 通の返信Clash should be for new light players, because there is only one thing to do there. Control should be left wide open (CBMM) for people who aren't afraid to play the objective.

3 通の返信Its funny how these alternative post come after Bungie decides to make a change... Bungie introduced what amounts to outlier protection let's see if it actually works before worrying about an alternative
