I really like a comment I heard on the last word podcast. Basically it was that if Bungie intends for this to build friendships as they often say then they should lean into more matchmaking, for all levels of content.
Wholeheartedly agree.
Right now the game does some solo stuff and some team based stuff but does neither really well.
Clans are ok but are very cliquey, so for those of you who say join a clan. In one now and rarely get help, and yep raid teams are pre established. Been in a few.
Not to mention LFG, be 1400 + with 200 clears and if you miss a shot be kicked.
For me the short answer is matchmaking for all activities, yes you're going to have bad teams and good teams but at least you can participate in higher level content without the onus of finding 2 other people to play outside of the game.
This game has elements of both in it. It is not 100% solo or team based and either side that say it is, is incorrect.
You can do almost everything solo but the end game harder difficulty requires a team as you'd expect from other games.
Matchmaking for all activities is not the way, but an optional in game match making system or party finder like WoW or FFXIV utilizes would be alright. Forced match making will not work at all because people will lose patience too quick and scuff runs.
