So, the new cutscene spoke about Guardians and Children... Another question to the lore experts!
Does the adopted son in the cutscene mean that Guardians (confirmed?) can not have own children because, lets say, the traveler prevents making kids for them (to prevent bondage to people we Guardians could value over the Travelers protection)?

3 通の返信🤷 it's probably like the spartan2/3/4s in halo, the need to breed or *doink* is pretty much removed, rare cases happen resulting in children with already improved genes but it's...sparse. I'd imagine that if paracasul beings ...*doink* it'd probably use the base genetic makeup an make a regular baby, otherwise we'd be covered in super babies . That or awoken an humans can't mate. 🤷 You'll have to ask Mara an Shaxx about their love child ?

2 通の返信I think I read somewhere that the Awoken are sterile. Human Guardians, presumably, can reproduce. Though given that they are likely to outlive their offspring, they might not want to. 😔

Saladin's reason for not having kids was rather vague, so it could be up to interpretation. For Zavala, you could argue that him & Safiyah may not have had enough resources to have a second child; it may be possible that they were simply content with one child too. I can't remember if there are any other Guardians in lore that discuss the desire to have children. Personally, I believe that it should be possible, but reproduction may or may not be suppressed (either byvthe Light itself or our ghosts) similarly to how they can suppress other biological needs (such as age & hunger). All of our other bodily functions seem to operate normally, so it would be strange if only our crotches were simply non-functional. It also begs the question as to if a Lighless Guardian could reproduce since they're severed from the Light.

I don't think it's ever been confirmed that guardians can't have kids but it's been heavily hinted at. There's lore of Saladin mentioning something about how he wanted kids but can't (or something to that nature) but it's kind of unclear if it's due to sterility or due to his duty as an iron lord. There's really no biological need for guardians to reproduce since they are immortal. My money is on guardians being unable to bear kids but it's never been explicitly stated in the lore

Not a bad theory. Plausible, but there aren't too many places in lore to solidify it. Your best "proof" would probably be that Shaxx doesn't have any children (him and Mara), but aside from that, I don't see any other pointers (besides Zavala, which is more unclear). I suppose Jaren Ward adopting young Shin Malphur might be an indicator: he doesn't (can't) have any children, so he adopts Shin to carry on his legacy. But the theory checks out: Zavala was drawn away from the service of the Traveler by his love, and would have been even more so had they had a giant family. Plus, in all or his and Safiyah's time together, wouldn't they have had more children than just the one they adopted?

I mean maybe but for guardians that aren’t in relationships it’s kinda pointless I mean how exactly does a biological child of a guardian be like in terms of raising and upbringing we saw Zavala tried this with his adopted son and it well didn’t end so well It’s a tricky subject with probably no good answer that will leave good vibes or at the very least make sure it closes one question with out making more pop up So where I stand on this is simple guardians can reproduce but since their always out fighting and protecting most guardians don’t as they see it as pointless and not needed and some probably would think it’ll get in the way of their duties and as such just never tried it or outright ignore it

if guardians were able to have kids all they would do is end up watching them grow old & die meanwhile the guardians barely age. I think they can't reproduce because they were dead for however long & were revived. I guess the ability to reproduce isn't entirely necessary because they are pretty much immortal. maybe they can but since relationships like zavala had with safiyah aren't encouraged we don't have enough information to say definitively. Or maybe rasputin created an incredibly advanced line of skinz 🤣

I honestly doubt that there’s any kind of “nope you can’t have kids cause you’ll like them more than Me” with guardians being presumably unable to have kids. I mean, it’s been shown that they can do literally whatever they want. None of the risen have any obligation to do anything they don’t specifically want to do.

1 返信I think it's a no for Guardians, in that I feel there would be some examples by now if not. Instead we have several examples of adopted children for Guardians. Here's the real question. Can Awoken and Humans have children together? Are they biologically compatible? If so, do are the Awoken traits dominant?

4 通の返信The first question I had was… who is Safiya’s daughter from the other relationship she had after Zavala? First thought was Eris… then maybe Ikora… third was Amanda (though not really). Timeline isn’t clear on how long ago Safiya lived but it’s been a minute. It was interesting that Eris was telling the story like it had been told to her first hand and the whole Sever mission made it seem like Zavala had never told anyone this so maybe Safiya was Eris mom…

I had this same discussion with someone else. I think it’s Bungie’s way of revealing that, no, Guardians cannot have children—or, after the time Zavala and Safiyah spent together, they surely would have had their own. But they didn’t. A lore tab for Saladin revealed that he could never have sons of his own. So, no, I really don’t think Guardians may have children.
