Iron Banner should not bring Rift back

I have given this game type plenty of attempts and I can honestly say it is one of the worst game types Bungie has released for this game. I've been playing since day one and I had to walk away from the game with this game type and it's atrocious, one sided play. It didn't matter how hard you tried, if you were on the losing team, you lost, it did not matter how I played or who I was with in a fireteam, if you weren't winning from the start, you weren't going to win and there is a reason why... Respawn time. I feel this game type would've been manageable and maybe even fun if the respawn time was less but TEN SECOND respawn time is absurd!! In this case all the other team has to do is wipe out 3/4 of the other team and they can easily carry the spark to the opposing rift with little to no resistance. By the time I respawn, the opposing team is already about to score. Any other complaints most of the community had addressed but this was my biggest concern with this. This was not a fun experience for me and I don't feel this is an IB game type, maybe just a crucible game type but it needs serious work.

  • I thought it was fun, and a nice change from IB control, which in my opinion was getting stale. It's a shame how IB rift was so poorly received. Just goes to show that a game mode that actually requires you to play an objective will not go over well with the Destiny community.

      IB Rift, was not the success Bungie hoped it would be. The transmat round reset was unnecessary and buggy all week. Then there were the maps... The only map worth playing this strategy focused Rift event was Disjunction. It was large enough for teams to devise various routes to the the enemy rifts and ways in which to defend or attack. Including CQC maps like Convergence and Bannerfall only served to give advantage to the Void Walker Hunter class (this was not intended right Bungie? Right Bungie?) On Disjunction the void hunter had to use their invisibility carefully and to maximum effect since it only lasts so long. Better map choices for a Rift match would be Eternity and Vostok, where the teams have enough room to run and multiple routes to the enemy rift. As it was, if you came up against a team of hunters running void, they dominated the match on the smaller maps. Not much fun for the rest who chose NOT to run this class or element. It often became a source of frustration to many when you are repeatedly shot in the back by an invisible hunter because the map is small enough for them to lie in wait for a target. If you bring back Rift, I hope you consider NOT using CQC maps again. This game type does not work with small maps. Secondly, 10 second respawn time is too long for this fast moving game. I would suggest 7 Seconds and 5 seconds when an opposing team has the spark. During a firefight, there is little time to revive a dead team mate when you are under fire and it often results in two dead guardians instead of one. This results in a downed guardian being left on the field to respawn, which gives one side an avoidable advantage when attacking. A short respawn when under attack also adds to the excitement of the match. In Gambit, when one side has a primeevil, the portal opens much more frequently to keep the game action moving faster. A shorter respawn for Rift would do the same when a team is under attack.

    • I don't get it. Bring back Rift was a trending topic for years on these forums and always had tons of upvotes. Usually it was always in the top ten. That is why Bungie brought it back. Then it was possibly one of the worst responses in Destiny history, on these forums. I don't get it.

      • Yep! They say it's a rework, but I think it's a recycled work.😂😂😂 A 5-year old recycled mode from D1. 😂😂😂 They have a new manager, a new director, both new guys in the steering wheel and this is what their team came up with?... 😂😂😂 What a game!

        • I think they should keep it. Like dmg has stated. It’s an objective based mode. Meaning you need to lean into team play and team work. The way I see it is crucible is training and ‘fun’. IB is objective and team based. Trials is all out gunplay and teamwork. After getting Iron Lord and going back to playing control. It’s so easy to see how people don’t care about capping and doing objective work to help get a win. Typically I find those people ignoring cap points to be the ones complaining the most.
