You can't make anyone work more than 40 hours a week here without them signing something to allow it, and you're completely protected from any kind of discrimination from not signing it. My mother worked 72 hours a week for a couple of years, but to balance it out they gave her 25 weeks off a year fully paid. You also have 12 hours between shifts - which again, is protected by workers rights laws.

I mean it shouldn't be lol. But hotdamn. See, over here that would just be written into the employee agreement; that thing about going over 40. And then when you don't sign, you just don't get the position. You get scumbaggery like that over there?

The common one here is the old "Oh but this way we can give you the extra hours for you to put more money in your pocket! Ey!? Ey!?" But no, it very clearly has to be a separate document that can only be drawn up once you've officially been employed. After which, they can't discriminate or fire you for refusing to sign.

Yeah, the more you know though.
But no, it very clearly has to be a separate document that can only be drawn up once you've officially been employed. Psyntifikにより編集済み: 5/30/2022 10:17:19 PM
As long as they pay him for all those hours it's fine.
But even so, OP is well within their rights to decline, right? And there's laws here that prevent you from being put on a shift any sooner than 12 hours from when your last one ended.

Believe me cooking for a living is a lot like being a teacher. The pay sucks and the job itself is thankless and unrewarding, but it’s the kind of career that you pursue if you are one hundred percent passionate about it.

Oh yeah he can absolutely decline. I take it he just doesn't want to though. What I was saying is if he's ok with it and they pay him for that extra time than I suppose it's fine. He just has to be careful not to burn himself out ofc. But yeah, they absolutely cannot just force him to work more than what he's scheduled for. He has to give the ok.
