Solar rework seems….underwhelming?

Might just be me but on first use it seems less…effective than it’s previous incarnation?. And my movement when using it is…gloopy?. Thoughts?. Perfectly willing to be wrong but this is just my first thought.

    After spending majority of yesterday after update (12 hours/ 5 ish hours testing) I can say that, the build crafting and potential is insane with each class. [b][u][i]PVP[/i][/u][/b] [b][u]HUNTER:[/u][/b] Being able to refresh radiant buff and synergize with that buff by getting precision knife kills, 15 second uptime on a 25% damage buff (radiant), dodging to get max stacks on, "On the Mark," which gives you additive tier 5 Handling and Reload Speed (further testing required) to all weapons for 15 seconds (which can stack with Dragon's Shadow (though i forgot if Dragons already gives you max to Reload and Handling)). Hunter feels really good in PvP with Neutral Game and Super now. Radiant Buff applied to Marksman Shot shuts down all Roaming supers easily and the aim assist to the shot is super snappy. [b][u]WARLOCK:[/u][/b] Roy Mustang snapping is enjoyable but celestial fire remains the better option for PvP (more consistent) Heat Rises refreshes after kills, allowing for consistent off angle plays, Icarus Dash feels interesting combined with Phoenix Dive (The cool down does hurt the synergy) Enhanced Healing Grenades are a rift in a pinch (stops most one shots in the game aside from super shots) The Dawnblade super is now combined from top and bottom allowing easier one shots with it (put the tracking fragment and you have the perfect Blades) Solar PvP feels more weighed into exotic synergy (Ophidians feel even more amazing with aerial change) and relying on kit placement (though not to heavily reliant on rift now, since Phoenix Dive acts as one in air) [b][u]TITAN:[/u][/b] The synergy is amazing, from shoulder charging into the new hammer down move to being able to create and abuse (yes abuse) Sunspotting. Shoulder charge feels tighter and longer (longer lunge (though may be unchanged it does feel better)) Trip Mine grenades add another layer of lock down for the titan allowing for a sunspot on kill. Dune Marchers proc on Hammer down move. Hammer Down can one shot 3 Guardians (All i could muster up for the test) if hit with both procs. Hammer down reaches up to 11 meters and can still proc one shot. Peregrine with Bash continues to one shot (yay). Hammer down just like, Middle tree Arc staff can change landing zone depending on which way you press your movement keys. Both Supers remain to be destructive and destroy Bubble and Well very easily. Neutral Game on Titan is very powerful but locked heavily on scary cooldowns. Roaring flames and sunspot can be used as a more long range player (used Lorely for testing) but all in all Solar titan is a monster in close to mid range engagements. [b][i][u]PVE[/u][/i][/b] This will be a bit shorter as most PvE content is easy enough for all classes to function faily well, most testing was done under 10 light levels. [b][u]HUNTER:[/u][/b] They have a spot in raids and GMs. Aside from Thunder Crash being an absolute menace at DPSing, Hunters can now self proc radiance onto a one shot golden shot allowing for (from rough testing 5 attempts on each super) 2nd highest damaging super. Well of Radiance also affects Golden Gun, Deadshot, refunds a shot for ever (EVERY!!!) enemy killed with ignition, you have a better chance in a group setting to run out of your super bar than your shots. Blade barrage remains the same (does not get radiance buff). -TEAM BUFFER- is what the Hunter is, with a dodge roll that applies radiance, melee applies radiance and can be chained infinitely for 100% uptime on it. Have not tried new gauntlets with explosive knife (gauntlets were not out yet) [b][u]WARLOCK:[/u][/b] Out of all my testing the warlock felt insanely great in PvE, Phoenix Dive with Heat Rises, enhanced Solar Grenades (using sunbracers) and Roy snap, felt like I was cheating. Scorching ramp up damage is amazing, the enhanced solar grenades plus 5 to 6 of them on a boss because of sunbraces proc made any content 10 levels higher feel like a breeze. If your are struggling to find a good synergy, Sunbracers/ Necrotics/ Ahamkaras and Winters Guile felt amazing with the Roy snap. Icarus Dashing to Well a group of team members felt amazing though not very useful when you should already be together. [b][u]TITAN:[/u][/b] If you like to see sunspots and a lot of them, this is the class, throwing hammer melee? SUNSPOT. Thermite Nade? SUNSPOT! Barricade? SUNSPOT! Did I mention Sunspot? The Titan can proc Roaring Flames very easily, and with laying a solar ground with sunspots the uptime is unending (as long as someone dies.....not you though). My Titan is very Bonk ready so synthocepts plus bonk hammer, roaring flames, and sunspots? I had my grenade up all the time, could one shot most bosses with my bonker hammer, and i could sit and heal with sunspot damage buff active. Did I mention you can proc Radiance off your melee kills?? Yeah you can. I forgot to mention all classes have a pocket rift now, with the Healing Granada, it does truly change the playstyle for a lot of classes that couldn't heal before (hunter(without crown)). [b][i][u]Final Thoughts[/u][/i][/b] For PvE all classes feel amazing, I am more in love with solar than void, partially due to the fact that I'm more biased about solar. (Did I say SUNSPOTS enough?) The classes do require investment into build crafting versus the old way of just having it all out for you. The Hunter felt the most loved from the update second the Warlock and last the Titan, as far as Synergy I would say the Titan and Hunter got the best synergy while Warlock got some but its more specific. Fun factor has to go to the Warlock and Titan, who doesn't like explosions? While Hunter feels fun, its more about managing your buff timers and that can be daunting sometimes. [i]I hope this helped, I think I rambled a lot, but I did a lot of testing and am far better at answer questions than just blurting out my finds if that makes sense. [/i]

      • I find that I'm dying more frequently on dawnblade now. Sure I can spam some nades every now and then if I run nothing but sunbracers but it lacks the survivability it felt like it had before. It wasn't that I could heal with bottom tree, its that I could nuke everything into oblivion before it could hurt me. THAT was fun. Then Bungie made the executive decision to delete bottom tree dawnblade in favor of top tree exclusively which isn't what most of us warlock mains wanted. Hell even top tree fans are asking wtf happened.

        • I wish titans had radiant an that severance enclosure had a secondary effect like the bombardiers if it had scorch oh man pair that with the mini throw hammer an ember of char 🔥

          Titan has promise with the ability to stack ability damage and get it back with sunspots. Removal of damage bonus from sunspots is rough, but now they provide strong healing. I’d look at a grenade build for now on Titan abusing roaring flames. For Hunters, Six Shooter still looks underwhelming in PvE, but it’s always been like that. The other two feel good as long as you remember to buff your golden gun damage with radiance. Saw some guy deleting bosses with Lightweight Knife + Celestial yesterday. Amped Grenade is cool but a bit gimmicky while the high uptime on the reload and handling aspect could be nice. Warlocks feel underwhelming in PvE. 90% of their kit feels designed for PvP with the new melee being the only difference. Even the new snap melee has abysmal range in PvE that makes it frustrating to use. The two returning aspects are both from Attunement of Sky with very little if any PvE changes. Add on top of that most of the functionality of the other two trees have been completely removed. No incendiary explosions and no benevolent Dawn (for now, similar fragment but locked for now that I’ll have to test). Daybreak also feels bad in PvE with terrible damage even with Dawn Chorus for how long it takes to get. Titans and hunters need a few adjustments. Sunspot damage in PvE needs adjusting. Improvised Grenade hitbox feels weird. Warlocks need a major PvE overhaul as the current aspects really only cater to 1 play-style. With the subclass’s only saving graces being the sheer strength of an amped Solar Grenade and how good the snap melee can be at times. Sorry for the wall of text.

              For me, Hunter feels amazing (and Solar Hunters needed it). Titan is a little underwhelming and Warlock just feels neutered unless you were already a TTD, Icarus Dash sweatlord. The synergies that mid & bottom tree dawn had were completely destroyed. Dawnblade didn't need any buffs. It was probably the most balanced and synergized subclass out of any. 3.0 just feels like the Devs only played TTD in PVP and had no idea what to do with middle & bottom tree dawn which were mostly PVE focused outside of people of me that focused on supporting my team as mid tree dawn in PVP. Why are 2/3 of the aspects for Warlock Solar 3.0 taken from TTD? It makes no sense. If anything, Hunter needed some buffs (massively) and it seems they're in a good place. Titan just needed some good QOL changes but the way they made changes to Dawnblade just made absolutely no sense outside of PVP. Warlock feels rushed or that there was little thought put into it. Sure, incendiary snap looks and feels cool but outside of that, it's incredibly underwhelming and feels neutered compared to the synergy that we had with abilities and exotics. Leaves little faith in the dev team as far as what classes they actually play. I dunno about you but I'm not trying to be floating in the air spamming solar nades in GMs and Master Raids where Grounded is a thing and floating in the air is a death sentence.

                Besides hunter (yeah i main hunter), what’s the difference between top and bottom tree solar for warlocks and titans they both do the same thing throw hammers and swing a fire sword. I do have a titan and warlock but I barely have experience with them.

                • I’ve been using felwinters helm, the warlock snap, and phoenix’s rising. You can get so much melee energy back by snapping in the air. That and your always stunning the enemies that don’t die to the initial snap. Solar warlock feels stronger than ever for me.

                  • Personally, I love Titan’s 3.0 rework. But Hunter and Warlock? Ehhhhh… not in love with them I gotta say. Especially Warlock.

                    • I think the biggest reason solar 3.0 feels less substantial then void 3.0 is how much solar was used prior to the change. Void was basically used for one purpose, unless you were a hunter, for each class. Titan to bubble, warlocks devour for solo content, and hunters tether and invis. So just adding one new thing to void for everyone would have felt massive and they added a bunch. Solar on the other hand though... There were already a bunch of different uses for it for everyone. Hunters pvp use six shooter, and then you could use 3 with celsetial in pve and not in the last year but prior blades was even good to use for certain things. Warlocks, well for pve, when dawn chours came around it made bottom tree more viable in pve then of course top tree for pvp. Titans middle for bonking, bottom for pvp especially with loraleys and then top for debuffs. So its not really that its underwhelming.. its just that a lot of solar abilities were already being used so it just kinda feels the same with some more nuiance and flexablity now. Plus if they had took some of them away to make new ones... well everyone knows how the community reacts to bungie taking anything away.

                      Honestly I find it weird how Icarus Dash and Heat Rising are separate. I would bundle them and make a new ability reminiscent to the old perk that extends your super length, but maybe it works on both Dawnblade and Well of Radiance

                    • Built my hunter to have abilities and invis as much as possible (sorry) and tough to do with solar and stay alive. Probably need to rework stats and gamestyle which I suppose is fair, just doesn’t seem like a great way to stay alive reliably for hunters, maybe I’m just ignorant tho

                      • So as a Warlock Main, of course I jumped on my Warlock and spent all day on it... I haven't tried the other two out but first impressions with Warlock: Not... super impressed. Void had a lot going for it and set the bar [b]HIGH[/b] for Solar. But it just... feels all over the place and nothing really synergizes well. Maybe it'll feel better when we have the rest of the aspects unlocked to play with, but even Void at base was amazing at launch. Scorched is... okay. It's a neat little mechanic that really doesn't feel like it's useful unless you're against bigger targets, against small fry unless you're using the perks that specify Scorched Targets... you'll never get use of the Ignite features of the perks. Even then it didn't feel like Ignite was doing a whole lot either. I'm a little annoyed that two of the Warlocks Fragments are movement related from top tree, feels... out of place and that they could have just merged those into one. Phoenix Dive feels... like it really shouldn't be a class ability. A major bulk of the Warlocks kit feels like it's catered to PvP, cause I can tell you that Heat Rises/Icarus Dash/Phoenix Dive will be what people use if they wanna sweat. The whole concept is neat, but Warlock though feels kinda gutted and didn't make it out of the operating room with it's legs intact... or it's internal organs. The biggest issue I think is Middle Tree's synergy it had with Boots of the Assembler and Lumina- [b]it doesn't exist anymore.[/b] It used to be if you used a Noble Round or if the Boots seeker went and found a target... you'd get Blessing of the Sky to proc... and it would activate the ability regen on middle tree. There's an aspect that does what that perk on middle tree did- but it doesn't work with the two exotics anymore. Warlock feels like it got shafted, as a Warlock main, it doesn't feel good anymore for Solar. Does it still work? Yeah but, it just doesn't feel right. Playing old Solar Warlock on any of the trees was like if you made a grilled cheese... you got your pan, your bread, your butter and cheese... ya got a grilled cheese. It works, it didn't need to be -blam!- with. Playing this warlock all day, it felt like whoever redid it was told make a grilled cheese... so they bust out Lays Potato Chips, sugar, all spice, a lemon... and then they go to the stove and put the pan down- and then they add water and is currently waiting for it to boil... Man my grilled cheese tastes kinda bad.

                          • Already moved away from the Hunter solar and back to the Void. Even without the seasonal artifact mods its head and shoulders above Solar 3.0 in PVE and PVP.

                          • Solar Titan remains an add clearing super again. I did Gambit with Burning Maul and all strikes hit the boss. The damage on his health bar was barely noticeable. Stick to thundercrash.

                              • Yep, I felt that after a few games. Void 3.0 was way better, and especially with the season mods, it was 8x times better than the solar class rework. It is also that they tried to do so many things, but nothing really connects or makes an impact. Very, very sad. I was looking forward to this....

                                  • I use to be able to run well in pvp and even trials. Now its useless. New healing nades are garbage compared to old system. Really hate the warlock rework so far
