I’ll never understand the appeal of streaming. Making them or watching them.
Surely there are better things to do with your time, on both ends.

I've broken out of that lately, but I decided to finish things up before posting. Also like, two of them have gone way over the character limit so I'm trying to figure out what to cut or if I can make a new part out of some of it. I know how it all ends though, and I dig it, so that's motivated me to keep working.
-
That’s kinda funny, ‘cause I just fell into writer’s block. Did you steal my mojo? :p It is worth noting, I think, that the cap did get booster to 10,000 characters.. Emphasis on “I think”. I’d have to double check, but I believe I hit past 8,500 on my Crystal Cross story thingy. But indeed, knowing the ending is the best! Gives you a goal to push towards, and motivation, and junk! But it’s also the worst when you veer off course and have no clue how to get back on… >.> I’ve had my RP ending on here planned out for, like, ever. I wish I was able to make shorter RPs so I could actually do it. :p
-
I hit a block a few months ago with the older version of the ending and had to fix some holes, then I just fell into one of them and it led to what I think is a better ending overall. We'll see! I'm enjoying writing it if nothing else! 10k won't be enough though lol. I loved my characters first ending, I just hated how it was executed. It was supposed to be a huge multistage rp battle with different groups in different locations, but life stuff happened and I changed it into a 3 part sign up story and felt weird writing other people's characters. Then I just kept coming back trying new things because I can do better, I can get it right this time, blah blah etcetera.
-
Haha, that’s always fun when an error works into your favor! Once you post it, you’ll have to tell me what the original ending was, too! Oh, it went like, waaay way over, then? Is there anywhere in the middle it might work to cut them in half? That’s what I did on TDBtF a few times, and it still mostly worked methinks. (though that did also lead to the final part being a single paragraph) I feel like if I actually want to get my RP story out, I’d have to do that, too. My problem with the RP story bit is, well, as you just said it’s weird to write other’s characters, but also that writing an RP is something I can do in my free time, while writing a story would cut into my actual writing time. I think I was around for the original ending you had, but I don’t think I actually read it. But if I’m thinking of the right thing, I remember the signups. :p I definitely feel that last part. My issue isn’t redoing my ending, though, it’s that I keep slipping stuff into the middle.. >.>

Psyntifikにより編集済み: 5/14/2022 6:57:23 PMBecause I like seeing other people enjoying the things I enjoy. People also like idly talking to strangers - which is why chat rooms exist. So it stands to reason people like idle chatter with a group of strangers whilst they sit back and chill with a game. Then there are people who make streaming their 9-5. On top of every other bit of brand management and community focused stuff you do, I can imagine it being a pretty satisfying way to make a living.
Because I like seeing other people enjoying the things I enjoy.
But doesn’t it get boring after a bit? Like, seeing a small clip of someone enjoying it, sure, but watching someone play through a whole game?
People also like idly talking to strangers - which is why chat rooms exist. Everyone always mentions the social aspect, but I don’t understand why you’d want to chat with a bunch of strangers.
Then there are people who make streaming their 9-5.
But doesn’t it get boring after a bit? Like, seeing a small clip of someone enjoying it, sure, but watching someone play through a whole game?
Everything in moderation. It's gets boring playing games sometimes, so I'll do something else. Watching a game and playing are game are two entirely different forms of entertainment. Sometimes I feel like one, other times I feel like the other.
I think this is the part I don’t get. And humans do social.
To me it sounds awful. I’d hate having a job where I don’t leave the house, and managing the community sounds like a drag. If you start out as a streamer on the side, then your channel grows to the point you need to do brand management, its probably a nice problem to have.

Like the people who subscribe to YouTube channels like Lion, or tune into the stream every week. Like, even I’ll watch some clips every now & then, but I could never watch someone stream regularly. I still don’t get it, though. :p
Probably because it pays. May as well get paid doing something you at least remotely enjoy. Home-jobs just don’t do it for me. If I were ever in that situation, I’d turn to my audience and say “I’m not streaming full time, and y’all can deal with it.”. :p

LahDsaiにより編集済み: 5/15/2022 12:42:40 AMI use it to research games I'm interested in to see what the gameplay is like. A lot of people enjoy the social aspect. It's the modern day equivalent of playing a single player game (such as many RPGs) with friends where one person holds the controller while the other(s) make suggestions/give feedback. Others use it as a learning tool, picking up strategies and techniques by watching others play. And then there are those who, quite frankly, feel they can't play the game but want the story. I know people who do not enjoy soulsborne games or roguelikes because they're too punishing, but they're still interested in games like Elden Ring and Hades. Watching a stream is enjoyable and relaxing, whereas playing would be frustrating and stressful. It's certainly not for everyone, but there are plenty of logical reasons people want to watch.

Like, you’d watch a bit to see the game, but wouldn’t be tuning in every week. For guides & whatnot, you usually just watch the guide until you’ve got a grasp on it, then you’re done. Streamers can't edit, which means more content and stuff you normally wouldn't see from edited content (embarrassing moments, rants, etc.) You also get a chance to engage in discussion with them, so long as the chat is slow enough.
-
Let me rephrase: I don’t understand anyone who makes/watches regular gameplay on a normal basis. Streamers, YouTubers, whatever. Like, I can understand if you’re making guides, or challenge runs, and stuff like that, but normal gameplay? On the audience’s end, surely it would be more fun to actually play the game. On the creator’s side, well you’ve got people like Lion here complaining about editing, and I saw someone once call the Bioshock Collection a “waste of money” because they weren’t allowed to make recordings on it. Like, can’t y’all just enjoy the game?

As a member of Vaush's audience, I watch because I really like the guy. He's funny, charismatic, and there's a chance he'll talk about politics during gaming streams. He also doesn't usually play games I like. As for the streamers themselves, they probably like having people to talk with, or to keep in contact with their own community. They aren't streaming to show off the game, they're streaming to chat while gaming.
He also doesn't usually play games I like.
I guess I can understand that part. Broadening your horizons and all that.
As for the streamers themselves, they probably like having people to talk with, or to keep in contact with their own community. It's not the same. Friends aren't fans. Friends aren't going to to talk to you 24/7, but fans sure will. At least, enough to keep chat alive. Fans also have a greater variety of experience to use in conversation, given a large enough fanbase. Plus there's the ego boost of knowing just how many complete strangers adore you.
