We don't get crap events because we play it, we get crap events because Bungie refuse to improve them.
We had SRL, people hated it and now many of those same people want it back because its different to the same boring -blam!- grind we get every event.
Too bad that will never happen. The resources they'd spend doing that would now just dip into what little seasonal content we get. Just look at this season, 4 weeks followed by an 8 week drought.

This seasons story is so light because its taking a backseat to the actual expansion content. Season of the Hunt was exactly the same with Beyond Lights launch. I'm not saying that's a good excuse because its absolutely not, but that's the reason why. My money is next season we'll be going back to a 10 week story model

Yeah I figured that's why as well but even the previous seasons had more than 4 weeks of content, this time they didn't even try. On the one hand I'm glad they didn't try to stretch it out further but on the other hand, I feel burned because there was no heads up. I may not have bothered buying this season if I knew it was the full price for half the story.

See I thought it was one of the most loved events but apparently it wasn't, it was an event most people disliked. Only now are people claiming to have loved it because its better than literally everything we've had in D2 that they call an event except maybe the introduction of the Haunted Forest, but even thats stale af.
