You awake with a strange knowledge of something old and natural, yet not of this reality.
You know of a written language, that when observed it’s statements hold true to the emotions of the reader. It’s a mathematical rune system that when seen the human mind is triggered to respond with a correlating emotion.
A simple flash of a rune can cause onlookers to feel fear, joy or any other base human feelings you write in this ancient language.
You can’t control thought or physical reactions. A person may feel the emotion, but ultimately are still in control of themselves.(unless they are incredibly impulsive).
Now that you have this power, do you use it? And if so, how and to what end?

1 返信Seems a little pointless unless in extreme and sudden circumstances, like causing fear in someone about to attack you in the hope they go away. But if they’re still in control then surely the emotion isn’t that strong? Why can’t I just use my carefully nurtured wit to make people happy when they’re feeling blue? Or just fight the guy wanting to attack me?

6 通の返信Joy isn't a base emotion. ...and no, I wouldn't use it. Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. 1. No one---not even me---is so virtuous that they could resist the temptation to use it to manipulate people to their own advantage forever. 2. At the end of the day, it would be an act of arrogance (and ultimately evil...see point one) to think that I can know what is best for everyone else to the point where I am entitled to override their freewill and insist that they do as I wish instead. 3. Even if I were to use it for good, it assumes that pain and difficulty are glitches in the Universe, and do not serve some other...greater...purpose that I would be interfering with.

Two things come to mind. 1. I could maybe get a tattoo on my hand or something that just makes people happy. Could help people out when they’re having a bad day, and everyone would just be happy to see me. Yay. 2. Become an artist, weaving these symbols into my work to trigger emotions. Probably just happiness again, since I can only trigger base emotions, not complex messages.

1 返信I write a bunch of poems with subversive subtexts that make everybody get something different out of the poem, depending on their place in life and interpretation of the emotions.

1 返信Flash cards, infiltrate news, broadcast joy and love to millions, big baby boom, not enough resources to go around, humanity slowly starts to die out, something interesting happens, profit!

2 通の返信Absolutely, and anyone who's ever been in a long term relationship knows exactly how.
