Feedback on Modern Gambit

Gambit has been a game mode I’ve been passionate about since its introduction in Forsaken, but hasn’t been able to find its footing since then. Now with the current changes, people have disliked it more than ever. With Witch Queen, there have been some good changes that have been overshadowed by the bad changes, so I’ll go over what is good about Gambit and doesn’t need to be focused on, what is bad about it and needs to be changed before it is forgotten until next year, and potential solutions that can be made. [b][u]The Good[/u][/b] •Reward Structure: Gambit has become much more rewarding with the Witch Queen update. World Drops and blues are removed from the end-match reward drops and Gambit related item drops have increased. On top of that, Gambit cosmetics can now drop in-game instead of needing to be earned through quests and Gear Focusing can be earned through reputation gains. There’s more of a reason to actually play the game mode and it is ensured that you’ll still get something even in the worst of matches, so your time is more respected and rewarded. The only complaints I’d have about loot at the moment is that Momento Drops are a bit too low and Armor Focusing doesn’t really have much of a benefit. •Invader System: The good changes made to the Invaders were the number of Invasions in the mote phase, the removal of wall hacks when aiming, and the fact that some motes will drop when you’re defeated. Invaders feel less stressful during the early game. Their main flaws come from the Heavy Economy, which I’ll get into later. [b][u]The Bad[/u][/b] •Primeval Phase: The majority of these changes were not good. The immunity shield system implemented and the fact that Invaders can reset all of your progress frequently and with minimal effort drags out the game for too long and makes this the most annoying part of Gambit. •Heavy Economy: While I’m sure these changes were made so that RNG for Heavy wouldn’t be a thing, it ultimately creates a massive influx of Heavy Ammo, which is the last thing Gambit needed Heavy Weapons have been a problem for Gambit since its creation, and now that everyone can get ammo for Gjallarhorn in a minute flat, this problem has worsened. Invaders can now rack up kills with minimum effort all of the time. However, Invaders are also suffering from this, because if they [i]aren’t[/i] running Gjallarhorn, they’ll be immediately spawn killed by someone who [i]does[/i] have Gjallarhorn. [b][u]Solutions[/u][/b] •Rewards: Slightly increase Momento drop rate and give focused armor higher stats. •Invaders: As stated in my [url=https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/260893291/0/0]Gambit Labs post[/url], Invasion Swap should be implemented into normal Gambit so Invaders are less detrimental in the early game and don’t determine a match when it starts. •Primeval Phase: Remove the immunity shield mechanic. Revert it back to the initial mechanic where Envoys give buffs, but have it so those buffs are removed once a certain amount of damage is done. For example, once the first bar of the Primeval’s health is done, you’ll have to stack the Envoy buffs again. Also, have it so that Invaders only get 2 Invasions for the Primeval phase so it can mirror the mote phase. •Heavy Economy: Have it so that every player gets 2 crates worth of Heavy Ammo at the start of the match. No heavy will drop from any source throughout the match. This ensures that every player is given a fair amount of ammo and that certain weapon archetypes are better balanced than others. For example, since Rocket Launchers get 1 shot per crate, they would get 2 shots for the match. However, since Grenade Launchers get 3 shots per crate, they would get 6 shots for the match. It also encourages players to strategize with their heavy instead of mindlessly spamming it, so the term “Gambit” would be more fitting. Do I wanna use it to Invade, shut down an Invader, clear a wave or save it for the Primeval? These changes can solve a lot of changes that Gambit currently has and make it much more bearable for everyone.
