They once said Crota could not be killed.
They once said the same of Oryx.
They once said the same of a Hive Worm god.
They once said the Vex were unstoppable, and the Vault was unconquerable.
They once said you couldn't wield darkness without losing yourself to corruption.
They also once said you can't shoot yourself out of a cannon to board a Hive ship.
Nor could you just shoot a hole into Mars.
Every time, proven wrong.
We will find a way. It's what we do. Whether it is with our guns, our fists, our powers, our skill, or our cunning we will find a way to break the Witness and her little fleet. Anything that stands in the way of humanity's survival must be broken, will be broken.
Just a matter of determining the means.

Ferus Luxにより編集済み: 4/4/2022 6:37:37 PMIt was never said of any of those and the books or sorrow clearly mention that Oryx and his siblings killed each other countless times and Oryx killed Akka whereas Xol was the weakest Worm with no notable feats. As for Darkness, that was a misconception. The Witness wasn't known by anyone but Savathun and it wasn't until last season that we found out about it from Mara. We are gonna beat the Witness but it's unfortunately bad writing.

I'm not talking about the books of sorrow or any of that, just from first hand speech and experiences. After the Lunar Disaster, Crota was thought to be unkillable, same for his father. Sure the lore says otherwise but most characters in the game have no knowledge of them save for a rare few like Toland. My point is, each and every threat we've faced has at first seemed insurmountable, unbeatable, etc. yet time and time again we gain knowledge and understanding of the enemy that we take advantage of. One of the keys in combatting it might be in one of our first encounters with it, the first temptation within the Lunar Pyramid.
Ghost: "The Red War saw so many lives lost. Saw the Light taken away so easily. In Light, there is only weakness." Ghost: "The Light abandoned Cayde. Left him for dead. Kept him from being saved. In Light, there is only failure." Ghost: "One by one, Crota slaughtered many Guardians. The Light stood by, and did nothing. And a Great Disaster ensued. In Light, there is only death. Come to us. Do not be afraid."
This could be a glimpse into the mentality of the witness, and I find it a flawed one as well as flawed logic that can be attacked.

Ferus Luxにより編集済み: 4/4/2022 7:10:54 PMOur perceptions on those old enemies don't matter. I'm going off feats. Look at the state the Traveler was in during the collapse. Look how many Pyramids there are. The Witness had no damage the Traveler had after the collapse. We survived because the Witness left. The Witness can move entire worlds and warp reality and time in its vicinity. Just being near Titan stretched it like an Egg. There is not a single "logical" (using this term loosely) way we should win. None of the Travelers Shockwave did ANYTHING to even the weakest of the Pyramids and look how powerful a SINGLE disciple was. Couple all of this with the Scorn, Calus, the Taken, and Xivu Arath and it looks even worse. Ultimately bad writing, friendship and big guns will prevail.

Astartes Marineにより編集済み: 4/4/2022 7:24:24 PMAnd all it took to end the Shadow War was for John Sheridan to explain how the Vorlons and Shadows weren't necessary anymore, that the younger races could stand on their own...and for the two old races to "get the hell out of our galaxy". Not saying we need pure raw firepower to win, I'm saying that there might be other avenues...aided by firepower but ultimately different. The Light wasn't at fault for the losses in the Red War, the fault was ours in assuming our powers were untouchable. Complacency blinded us to the possibility. The weakness was ours. The Light did not abandon Cayde, his own overconfidence led to his downfall, hubris. The Light was not at fault for the Lunar Disaster, we did not understand our foe, no knowledge of how the Hive ascendancy system worked. We threw bodies at Crota because we thought he was just a big glowy Hive Knight...and we paid the price for underestimating the enemy. In each and every one of the witness' points they are wrong. The Light is not at fault, nor is it faulty. It is merely a force we are gifted with, what we do with it, and how we use, or misuse it is on us and us alone. That right there could be the issue. It all boils down to the argument of who is right, the great game between gardener and winnower. The answer could be neither.

I never said the light did any of that 😅 I'm just saying we should be screwed and it would be okay if we lost and either had to flee the galaxy or there was a clash between light and dark that reset the universe or something.

I'm aware. The Witnesses logic is terrible and blaming the Traveler for bringing ruin to civilizations is idiotic when it's own prerogative is literally to end everything. Not even leave one race as the final shape like we thought either, as it's revealed that the Final Shape is nothing: the final Abyss when nothing remains, whereas the Traveler seeks to perpetuate and diversify life. ...Power wise, the Witness SHOULD be unbeatable compared to what we're working with.

Unbreakable Patchesにより編集済み: 4/5/2022 4:37:46 PMIt’s not really idiotic. Life is the only reason death exists. If you completely eradicate life, then there is no more death. There’s not really any hypocrisy or stupidity here. I’d argue that oblivion is better than a universe where it’s only light.
